i have it midi'd up to my mpc so i can play in basslines and such and then record both audio lines to my mbox. i love my microkorg, the sound outta it are crazy, plus u can fuck with the sounds to no end, plus u can download a software editor for it and download patches from the net to load on to it. if u can afford it man go for it.

cheers mate, taken me three or four years to get my setup the way i want it, three jobs and a few xmas's and bday's. it nice to be able to sit down and do exactly what u want without having to be constantly swapping wires, or thinking, if i had this or that.

my audio flow is out my laptop to the external line in my mixer, (means i can sample from records, torq and mp3's) into my 303 then to the koass pad into my mpc2000xl. i usually get loops setup in the 303 fuck with them on the Koass pad and chop them on the mpc. same with drums, pile on loads of effects with the 303 and KP then sample them in the mpc.

i havent messed with the 1000, but i have been on the 2500 and because its from the same generation am sure the OS is pretty similar, which is alot different from the 2000xl, 2000, and the older models. i can see myself gettin a 1000 in the near feature but the mpc is the centre of all my beatmaking and will be till it falls apart.

I just got the Microkorg and haven't really done much with it. I CAN say that I'm amped to really start messing with it because what I've done with it when just messing around has been pretty dope.

I think there's a bunch of key features you can't do with a 1000 that you can with a 2000xl, or 2500 like layer your snares, etc etc etc, I've been havin' my eye on the 1000 for a cool minute and I think the ultimate solution is update to JJOS so you can do the same shit and save some $$... that's what i've heard though... feel free to correct me if i'm wrong...

The one question I have is where do you purchase jjos?? And if you upgrade your 1000 with jjos does it basically reformat you're entire operating system... leaving your manual useless?? Sorry if this is a lame question...

am pretty sure u can download it for free, dont quote me thou, always if the JJOS fucks up u can also reinstall the old OS by downloading it from the Akai website. If u put the JJ on the 1000 ur Akai manual would be useless yeah but theres a JJOS manual too.

i didn't realise that. so about 600...woah, cold just get a laptop for that

Josh, you use reason too..i don't like the synths that much, the presets are shite and i hate using the mouse to edit the sound, although apparently the microkorgXL is cutting down the hardware knobs and doing more through USB/software which is a kinda step backwards for me. do you have a MK?

I'd like to get one (normal MK) as i feel i don't have decent synths, but then it's a hassle to integrate with Reason (unless you sample the MK, you'd need to have a mixer & recorder/Rewire reason into Ableton?), may be it's sounds are getting over-used, it does happen with synths?

any thoughts on that stmb?

the sounds on the mk are overused, like all popular synths/keyboards, so run em through a kaoss pad, guitar pedal, pioneer efx, sp-303/404/505, one a those new hardware moog filters, anything to make the sound a bit more fresh or different...

thanks, i'm kinda leaning towards just rewiring reason into ableton and using softsynths like Rob Papen albino, I'd have to use ableton anyway if I got an MK.

yeh i know what you mean, the presets on the synths are generally pretty wank. you can get some really nice sounds however if you tweak the dials etc, but like you say, its a pain in the arse doing that with a mouse.

i dont use an mk, i just got a shitty keyboard and an mpd (which although has dials n shit, there's no way in the world you could get complete control over synths with it)

there is this option, although i don't know how good they are (they look a little cheap). You can get overlays for it for each Reason module which basically makes it a dedicated reason control surface. I've always thought that looked pretty handy.

reason seems like a very limiting program, a friend of mine used to use it, he uses logic pro now, reason was the source of countless wasted hours and headaches for both of us...if you feel comfortable in ableton my advice would be to switch, your choice tho...
