Hopefully they will put out the Duality vinyl soon, really wanting to grab that right away before it more than likely sells out :(

damn, sold out in a day? I'd have copped. I remember it took The Madlib like 5 months to sell out that 1000 piece MMS 12/13 vinyl.

And I wonder if they managed to actually clear all those samples... batman begins and shit?

Can't believe I missed the vinyl. I had been checking almost everyday and I checked yesterday and it was already sold out.
Guess I'll have to settle with whatever repress comes eventually :(

yeah if I had to guess I'd say they're bullshitting about that. These things are pricey (though worth it), gonna end up being like 35 with shipping... I'd say there's pretty much no way the Cap'n has the pull to make 1000 35 dollar records disappear in what amounted to 4 or 5 hours. I mean, there's a fanbase, but come on.

I can believe it. With all the hype surrounding this project I'm sure some people were buying up a few at a time.

judging from the guy attempting to flip it on ebay for $250without even having it in his possession yet, you may be right about people scooping it up. but i'd still be amazed. I mean, what publicity did this release get? You essentially had to be glued to his twitter feed to buy this thing, and even then we're taking about only a couple of tweets the day before release. It's not like this blew up the front page of pitchfork or something, think they're keeping it low-key to avoid being hassled about samples. Maybe if people were able to buy like 5 or 10 at a time... I just can't picture 1000 people dropping 35 bucks on an instant cop like that. I mean, some of my big flylo-fan friends were not even aware of it by the time it sold out let alone had decided whether it was worth it to drop that dough.

An unknown identity can cause quite a bit of hysteria for some reason.

Overall tho, the whole product, music, art and mystery of who he really was, were executed very well. The hype started for me on these boards. Some thread some kid posted. That's a few thousand people. X's that by 3 other similar message boards, that's almost 10 000. Get Earl SweatShirt, that's a few hundred thousand. Since Warp and Brainfeeder were involved, you get the press.

It can be done. But still, it is deserved. An amazing product from every angle.

I don't doubt that the whole project has a lot of fans. agreed on all your points about the combination of various fanbases making it a perfect storm. it's just the logistics of it that confuse me, though I guess it's possible. for example if you do a google search for it, it appears that news of the release was dispersed pretty much exclusively through twitter. Flow- did you post here before it sold out? I'm just surprised it would sell out well before making the rounds on discussion boards, blogs, etc. There's some discussion some places but mainly older speculation on the subject, like on this thread. I mean did ANYBODY on STMB managed to get their hands on a copy??? I'm sure there are easily 1000 people out there more than willing to pay for this, but moving 1000 in a couple hours based off of a few tweets and retweets is pretty impressive even for flylo, or so it seems to me. especially when none of us dedicated cats were quick enough.

Like I say, Captain Murphy has a real mystique about him. So I can see how this vinyl would get snapped up quick. 1000 in one day tho. Yikes thats good.

I knew it would sell out fast, way too much hype and the people associated only add to it.
Still can't believe how fast it did sell though, I figured I would at least have a day or two to grab it lol
Guess I should have been checking by the hour xP

If you had the chance to buy it, I guess most people bought more than one copy if the store allowed that. It's still crazy to see how quickly this sold.

Other artists with a fairly large fanbase still have their super limited to 300 copies records up for sale. I'm a bit bummed that this doesnt get sold on HHV.de...they usually get everything :(

might've just been the odd future hype that surrounded it. although it didn't turn out being any of the members, it still turned a lot of people onto this type of shit.

i feel like they might have been involved still, and arent taking ANY credit for it whatsoever, it was the track that CM did with EARL that hyped up Duality, no one would have even hyped it as much if he didnt get involved

Like I say,
Earl has half a million Twitter followers.

But I doubt OF had anything to do with the creative product, beyond, show up, rap, post some shit on Twitter and add to the hype machine.

Besides Earl Sweatshirt's verse I doubt Odd Future had anything to do with the album, besides maybe being present during a recording session or rubbing off onto Flying Lotus making him rap a certain way and rap certain lines.
