Madlib does some shit with his voice on the start of Bluffin from The Unseen and on the start of Hydrant Game from The Further Adventures of Lord Quas. on both songs, it's the first thing u hear, and it sounds like his voice is fluctuating or something. also sounds like he's doing the sound using his tongue but it sounds too hard to do just using his tongue cuz his voice pitches up and down. so my question is, for you sp303/404 users out there: is this a trick that can be done using one of the many fx that come with these machines? or any other machine for that matter, seeing how Madlib has a lot of different gear in this studio. if not, then i'll just assume it's something he does on his own without the help of any machine...

give your thoughts on how u think this sound is accomplished too. i'm looking for insight cuz i like fucking around with sound....

you mean that hurling sound? i always just thought that was just him or declaime fucking around. or it's sampled. if we're talking about the same shit i don't think it got anything to do with any effects.

Shit is too funny. They need to put that on the Stones Throw icon when you click it. Wait!.........The secret would be revealed, it could have dire consequences, like Tom Hanks (or was that Bono?) Da Vinci code or sumting.

tape recorder speed adjust

that would make sense. do it the same way he does the quas voice. except, how would he prevent his voice from sounding like quas cuz the sound he makes sounds like his own voice, not like quas. but at least, i understand it a lil more i guess...

haha! they should make a separate room just for questions concerning madlib's snares, kicks and hairstyles.

i like madlib and all, but some of you kids are pathetic. "wow, golly gee guys, i was listening to the promo copy of "the unseen" the other day and i started to wonder what kind of hot sauce madlib puts in his burritos"

my questions is, why does jadakiss always do that bird sound, like "eh-hah"...shit is funny everytime i hear it.

When he was interviewed in Scratch he said how he did it, but if you're into music and film production it's a no brainer. When he records his Quas vocals, he slows the beat down, then after recording he adjusts it back to the original tempo.

Example: myspace.com/djdawhud

check the song Ol' School Sessions. I did the same thing on the 1st and 3rd verse to produce higher and lower pitched voices.

that was mean, he asked about a production trick, not something personal about madlib. your way off target

yep....steady complainin about the question?
i feel like either help the guy out or shut the fuck up...
no need to be a dick about it. that's just me though *shrug*

at any rate, it sounds like an fx trick to me as
far as the sound before "bluffin" and "hydrant game"
is concerned.

all i'm saying is, they should open up a "madlib production" forum as other people have suggested. besides, instead of asking dumb questions like this, maybe you should go try it out for yourself and come up with your own production techniques.
