anyone like them guys? i loved both albums and the fact they made it all sound like they were using samples, lot of hip hop producers were fans of them back in the 90(dre,rza,primo.shadow etc) i realize that once they became midley sucessful every lapdancing club, trendy hair salon would blast out 'glory box' thus making them 'coffee table music' kinda put people off but the beats were raw as hell! i had a short convo with geoff barrow awhile back and the hip hop albums he was feeling at the time were jaylib and madvillian,id be very intrested what sort of sound they are come with this time around seeing as the whole dark sound has been done to death, anyway work is finally underway for the new album seeing as the last one was in 1997 they have alot of ground to cover

bring it!

i never really got into them back when they were zeitgeist.... i should have payed more attention as they are from the Briatol area - -my manor! but all stuff ive heard seems to sound pretty great. it's just those singles got really boring after hearing them on every advert ever.

I don't know if that ish is really ever going to come out. It's like Dre's Detox or GNR's Chineese Democracy.

some of "Dummy" was mixed in Moles Studios in Bath. I work in the Pub which is also owned by the studio owner.
they've been back there since doing some remixes and apparently that "Rustin Man" album was mastered there aswell.

they played an acoustic set at one of my mum's Art Exhibition opening nights a few years back, also in Bath. i was DJing that night and was tres gutted that i missed.

wow, definitely interesting.. I had no idea

Portishead were definitely one of the strongest voices we had over here for many years.. Strangers was an underground anthem, you'll still see people brukking to that one in london occasionally.

That era, and combining elements of hip hop and beat culture, and infusing it with the crucial element of SONGWRITING, and soundtracks and library influences.. well, I still play it, put it that way.

They definitely helped to kick start that whole "trip hop" phase - did the UNKLE remix on mowax as well - overground AND underground, womblin' free - very inspirational on many fronts.

geoff's keyboard solos always get me as well :)

respect also due to adrian utley for his very memorable scratches.. it's.. it's.. it's like that.

peace
