Diesel was Dilla's cousin. He has changed his name over the course of his career a few times so I'm pretty sure Cue D is what he was going by when Stay Paid was released.

to get some serious discussion goin, hopefully, i was thinking the other day, what if dilla would still be alive... he was on the verge of coming up with something new and his sound would of only expanded.. so many peoples beats are inspired by dilla and so many cats sound have grown due to dillas influence, flylo to name one, i dont think dillas new shit would of been easily imitated. no one to me has gotten close to what he did with DONUTS and even though some can argue that its just a bunch of loops, to the trained ear its much more than that.. so what do u guys think, would dilla have branched off into his own "dilla genre" kinda like how Flylo has his own sound which many have played off of.. just the potential of beats that could of been created.
i love that we have unreleased beat tapes of dilla out because through those my respect grew even higher. dilla has a preemo type beat on one of those tapes, a 9th wonder type beat, a pete rock type beat, and a bunch of his own signature beats, dude was very versatile... thats why i kinda get angry and also just straight up sad when i see dudes disrespect the man and his legacy, calling him overated and that donuts wasnt as good as it is. the dilla bandwagon has gotten people angry, i can see that, but at the end of the day really listen to the music and make your own opinions.. hopefully i dont sound like a fanboy, but if i do, fuck it. i love dillas beats and to me they are timeless... i could never get bored of listening to them. real talk.
also sev seerer i applaud you.. another post that is on fucken point.. that man speaks the truth!

I think the people who disrespect and downplay Dilla's beats simply just dont get it. Few people do. Thats totally fine with me because when I hear his music I know where he's coming from. The people who are quiet, reclused, and dont say much and are way too unreasonably humble and are perfectionists, GET Dilla. I will celebrate his music regardless if people get tired of hearing his shit.
I remember playing the fuck out of Labcabincalifornia in my stepdad's car until the battery died. First time I heard "Like water for chocolate" I played it front to back and even studied the liner notes in the album cover and read the lyrics, wondering who the hell the Soulquarians were. Same with the D'Angelo Voodoo album.. Even he did his thing with Q-Tip it was probably the best shit that ever came on BET countdown.. "vivrant thang".. When I heard "Get dis Money" I damn near lost my mind that is probably my favorite Dilla beat. I remember trying to download anything Slum village off of Kazaa and failing. Didnt have google back then, we had some bullshit alta vista and ask jeeves. I'm goin off on a tangent here but anyway... yeah.. I'm no bandwagon kid.. but even if Donuts is the first shit youve ever heard from Dilla. Much props to you. Thats my $2.50 lol
