I'm a huge Common fan, so I had big expectations going into it, especially after I heard "Ghetto Dreams" and saw the album's dope, Lonnie Smith-inspired artwork.

On first listen, though, I was a little disappointed. To me, the production was less about the warm, melodic sound heard on Common's best albums like Be and was more about straightforward samples and drums. On top of that, Com's songwriting and subject matter on the album never really made an impression on me.

What are your thoughts on it?

The first single Celebration is pretty freakin good. Very catchy Kanye production i believe. I am anticipating a poppier Be.

"Celebration" is the third or fourth single, after "Ghetto Dreams", "Blue Sky" (which I think was a single), and "Sweet".

Also, all tracks are produced by No I.D., so no Kanye beats on this album.

Huge Common fan. In RE: TDTB... 3 words:

WACK

ASS

ALBUM

where the fuck is the hip-hop/boom-bap/soul he alluded to returning to? Fuck this album it's so bubblegummy and trying to be poetic and deep that its just soooooooooo mediocre.

What really does it for me tho is the whole troop coming home thing in the celebration video.
Appealing to the military demographic. Classy. And real hip hop for sure.

Yeah, "Celebration" is a great song, especially for this time of year — I'll be bumpin' it on NYE for sure. I wish there were more songs like it quality wise on the album, though.

Just listened the whole album today..even tho people we're dissin' it and to be honest it was dope. I feel like consumers are gettin' more & more critical as we're livin' in a time when music is pushed out in huge masses..

Ok i have to admit that i don't always like No I.D's drums...and i can't understand why Common is tryin to be this macho ladiesman at this day and age especially when he is known as a conscience rapper....

Still i have to say the album as whole had a nice consistent mature loungin' type of feelin to it...kinda reminded me of Masta Ace's "a long hot summer" ( don't ask me why :D ) ...makes me think that if this album dropped a decade ago that it would be much more appreciated...all and all a dope solid album
