Update:
This should now work with most devices pre-honeycomb (Android 3.x - it will probably work on tablets, just scaled up to fit the screen). It is on the Android market: https://market.andro...id=uk.co.blupad

It will also work with Mac: see my blog for instructions on how to do that: http://blupad.blogspot.com/
You'll also find a link to the server there.
Detailed instructions are available here: http://db.tt/4H221Zp

16 Pad Controllers
9 Octave Range
10 Assignable MIDI Faders
8 Assignable MIDI Switches
8 Assignable MIDI Triggers
3 Assignable Transport Buttons
Adjustable Note Velocity

Hey, I've done some work on this and it works with HTC Desire HD, Samsung Galaxy S and Motorola Milestone.
If you have an Android phone, Windows PC and make beats, I would really appreciate if you could just try it out and post some feedback here. It's part of an MSc in computing and I will get major brownie points if I can actually get some feedback.
Instructions are included but basically,
  • to make this work with Ableton, Reason etc you need to install `loopbe1
  • When you run the server, you select LoopBe1 from the list of devices (or choose your soundcard if you want to control MIDI devices attached to the MIDI OUT of the soundcard)
  • in your DAW, select LoopBe1 as the MIDI IN source.
I'll post up some screenshots later of how that'd look in Ableton and Reason, and a poll for feedback...

Christ, I had a hell of a time trying to register.

I have an HTC Incredible 2 (Model number ADR 6350) running Android Version 2.3.3, and I have a goal of using four android based tablets/touch devices in a midi/touch controller configuration for several different PC programs, in unison. Your research excites me, and I'm willing to be your biggest fan and tester for what ever software platform you require. Call me/email me at your earliest convenience, and we can get acquainted/ start working.

And here's a quick video I made - doesn't just have to work with a DAW

Yeah, I kinda just made that vid so people could see what's possible, maybe someone somewhere actually has a use for that  .
I'd need to look into it, whether it's possible, but I'd definitely like more than 2 Q-Links, or control track volumes...
