My wallet has been hurting for the past couple of years but now I am looking to buy a bit o tunes. I am wondering which, if any release of Madlib's is closest to Donut's. Does he have any "beat tapes" (official ST release)? If so, what are your faves?

1) Where have you been?

2) I like MMS 5 & Beat Konducta 1-2

3) The closest to a "donuts sound" is gonna be Beat Konducta 5 due to all the soul samples AND it's a dedication to Dilla.

Really, his best sounding beat tape depends on your tastes & comfort zone. He's got an african based one, a bollywood one, a beat tape focused on an imaginary movie soundtrack & one dedicated to Dilla. Not to mention BK 0 and MMS 5. Hope that wasnt too much info!

I don't know how much they charge on iTunes, but why not try the Amazon Marketplace? You could score the actual CD for less.

I don't know, I think they are all good :/ you should listen to samples on Amazon or hhv.de before you buy one

i agree with ynq. MMS 5 is a great exploration of his early shit. to me BK 5-6 trumps all. i think 1-2 are very overrated, i'm a fan of melody which 1-2 lacks compared to 5-6. both are great and have different merits. dils win it for me though.

Yah, BK 5-6 is on the hit list now. What is the source of that Jamaican dude calling throughout the album? He is used in Champion SOund and on the old Boot Camp Klick shit.

I still have not read any post in this thread, and Refuse to read any post, this is one of those topics you read on the topic list and just skip over it. I can only imagine how bad some of the post are in this topic. I'm only posting in this thread now because I was summoned to take some shits on some terrible post, but I just going to continue to ignore this topic.

No no no. You start with Beat Conducta Vol 0. Then you can work your way through the rest of the BK series. Then you cop MMS #5.
