^agree. DOOM could just do spoken word creating his own melody over the beats.

The Starks DOOM joint is aight. They make worthy partners.

Been listening/watching the vid for Raygun a lot recently. Totally grown on me...wasn't keen on Masquatch to be honest. But digging this quite hard now.

Good to know the pairing still sounds natural all this time later.

A lot of the good music from the past 10 years is on Adult Swim.

Also seriously, The Black Keys? Guitar drums? The White Stripes? How did that even...who let that happen

I trace it back to a group like "The Killers" and the gayness of pitchfork. I became a DOOM fanboy. Same w Madlib. Met the latter. Had a chance to help promote rock the bells (w a promise to meet DOOM). And slept instead. This music thing is dying slowly.

I just want to find one or two friends who want to listen to Art Blakey or Count Basie with me. Over and over again. And part with all my stupid LPs that aren't jazz or classical.

Haven't listened in a long while. So little time in life. You tube is a lame way to listen in. FUck the music industry. Thieves stealing in all the arts.

Age is more than a number. 30 is the new 40 and so on and so forth. Think ahead: pay off your funeral today.

I feel the same about DangerDOOM. I felt it was the least good release back in those heady days of '99 - '05...but been listening to it a lot over the last few week. While I always thought it was a really good album. I have a new found appreciation for it now.

Roll eyes at the BLT hateration. Fuck that album is good. My buddy copped the wax when it dropped but stopped giving a shit about hip hop and records so I made sure to snag it before he takes them all to one of the shops and trades everything in.

"Good" is relative. It's better than most of what's out there, but it was a significant step down in Doom's discography, and marked the point where (I feel) he stopped giving a shit about his career and started coasting.

Sett expectations high for yourself. Lower them when it comes to others, especially artists; and you'll find you won't be utterly disappointed when something isn't Doomsday/Madvillain quality and the masterpieces will be that much better. Just some advice it's taken me years to apply to my own life, take it or leave it.

I guess I'm in the minority about Operation Doomsday. I really enjoy the album, but I don't love it. In fact, it's my least favorite DOOM album. I get that it's a milestone for hip hop though, and have utmost respect for it. I just can't connect with it. If that makes sense. I feel like it's the album where Daniel Dumile was getting into character.

I was utterly disappointed by Born Like This when it dropped, I will admit. The problem was every MF DOOM album up to that point had a strong conceptual underpinning that made it utterly unique. Leading up the album, he dropped Cellz, and I was like, "ok, this is gonna be an apocalyptic album intercut with Bukowski samples. Sounds great." Instead we got this collection of b-sides and old material. Angelz had already been out for years (minus the awkward snare that was added). Same deal with Lightworks, plus Talib had already rapped over it. A lot of the tracks didn't even have Doom on them. Absolutely sounded like it should've been on Madvillainy (that's a great track tho). Plus, has anyone noticed that it seems like it was recorded poorly, like he had the beats with no stems and recorded them at his home or something? Some of the tracks sound real raw like, like More Rhymin' – and not in a good way.

Sorry for the rant, this is just some stuff I have wanted to get off my chest about BTL for a long time. Idk maybe it was an adolescence thing but up until that point I had gotten really into Doom, into the whole idea of his myth and persona. I was comparing him to Shakespeare in my head. I thought his career would unfold like this unbelievable stranger-than-fiction master plan. And then when this album dropped it kind of brought home the reality, like, "oh, this guy is human, after all, he can drop duds that don't really follow any progression." Really took the wind out of my sails as a Doom fan.
