This was written by Doom on the back of a print-out I gave of all the lyrics for him to proof.  Meat Grinder was such a pain in the ask to transcribe that I asked him just to write out for me.  I was looking for this paper the other day, seems to be lost.

This will stand next to the Dilla collection at smithsonian when it will be excavated.

my favorite MV track...it's been appealing to me more than "Curls" lately, which used to be my old fav (still up there at #2 though).

Yeah this has always been a favourite for me, not least because of the beat

Rhinestone cowboy is the song that's really grown on me over the years. And fancy clown...

I thought it was 'subtlest midget'... This changes everything. Is that some sort of movie reference, some midget character with a subtle lisp?

Sounds like something that would be in a bond film...

It just means that China the soft sweet minor he is pimping is short and also has a slight lisp.

Anyone else grabbing this? http://www.stonesthr...lme-madvillainy

Went ahead and signed up, probably gonna cancel after MV since I can't imagine them sending an awesome album like this consistently each month. Mostly grabbing for the booklet it comes with, also curious about the 12x12 art print that comes with it as well.

I don't know, some of the previous releases look kind of cool:

Diarrhea Planet

I'm Rich Beyond Your Wildest Dreams (LTD Edition)

Thelonious Monk

Paris 1969 (Reissue)

Is it me or is MV getting repressed, or re-issued, or re-packaged, or magically "back in stock" a lot lately?

Think they did a recent repress. MV2 and instrumentals also have gotten recent represses I think.

How long do we think it'll be till the preview clips are out for the new album? 'Darkness' has grown on me to be honest (was pretty disappointed initially, perhaps due to the reused beat and what I felt was a subpar hook, but now I really like it).

'Om' I really liked from the jump. Great track :)

On DOOM's fb page he's shared a Lex video of a test pressing of the album which appears to preview the 'Intro' leading into 'Om'. The beat for the intro reminds me of KMD for some reason, lol. Anyone who hasn't should check it out.

There is one track on that DOOM! mixtape that has remained an enigma to me for years.

Where does it come from? Where is it going? a DOOM track called Doom?

I refuse to recognize it as a legit compilation album because it seems to contain an incomplete radio-rip of Savior Beans. According to discogs it's a Think Differently Music release, but the mixture of stuff on there makes it seem very clandestine.

Never heard that before now. Very interesting. Where would they get this from if not the villain himself?!? Weird.

You got a digital copy of the tape you could hook me up with?

sorry my dude I got rid of all the tracks but that one long ago to save hard drive space.

The rest of the tracks are all available elsewhere. Some are B-sides, some are features. A lot of them are just regular album cuts, Gazzillion Ear, Ballskin, Cellz, That's That, Potholderz, etc. a few off of MV2, the Sniper Elite EP. I'd say you can probably find most of the B-sides and guest appearances on Unexpected Guests too.

It's just that one goddamn track that still remains a mystery to me. The verse seems to be about selling a quick verse for a quick buck.

where is the line between an EP and an album?

Histoire de Melody Nelson which i'm listening to has 7 tracks, but 2 of them are 7+ minutes.

Bookhead EP had 9 tracks (though some were remixes).

NehruvianDOOM has 9 (though 1 is an intro)

Opinions?

There is no defining line.  In general, the EP ("Extended Play") means longer than a single, shorter than an album.

These are marketing terms that have their roots in the early/mid 20th century based on what length of music they could fit on 78s, 7-inch, and 12" records.  What we think of defining an "EP" and the ways they were made changed over the years, and there no strict definition that the industry follows. Whether it's 12" vinyl or digital, it's possible that a certain collection called "EP" might be longer than another collection called "album".

These are marketing terms

EPs have come back in style recently.  Instead of giving out so much music for free artists are now releasing what they're calling "EP's" and making it a retail effort.  You can pretty much attribute marketing and PR efforts to the gray area that's become categorizing projects.  Isaiah Rashad released a 14 track "EP" earlier this year.  The reason they called it an EP, is to one, be able to charge for it, and two, to make it seem like it's the precursor to something else - - there way to kind of test the waters, if you will.  Calling it an EP is sort of a noncommittal way of releasing an album.  Other than this and the obvious history reasoning, which in essence still holds true at times, there's very little difference between an EP and an LP in today's world of distribution and retail.

Did anyone else get seriously disappointed when they realised Mini-LPs were the same size as normal LPs?

Same thing happened to me with Maxi-Singles too - the same size as normal singles!

How do they get away with this blatant mis-selling? Something needs to be done.

Jimmy, we can corner the market on "mini-LP" releases...the size of a drink coaster.  japanese girls will buy them because they think they're cute, heads will buy them so they can take their baby-crates with them on the go, japanese men will buy them to use like fleshlights -- shit's a win-win-win situation.
