So is MMS #8 a mix of vintage "real" jazz, or is it a mix of Madlib's own YNQ stuff?

hey jadoe, i did those wall papers -- i chose those 4 since they make up the bulk of our web traffic. i'll knock out a 1920x1200 for you if i get the chance, just as soon as i get over being jealous over your imax-sized screen.

haha, naw it's really ok. I've got the 1680 x 1050 centered and it looks fine with a black border around it.
great work JJ!

i havent used Shazam in a long time but it's worked for me before when i'm in a store or restaurant or somethin and it catches a little 5 second snippet and can tell you which song, artist, album it is..

I didn't try (or think to) on any of his other albums but for this one I was thinking maybe we were getting some stuff that's a bit more well-known....I mean, i didn't realize he was presenting Miles Davis et al to us through rare crate-dug records...I thought he might just use some classics..

I've only tried to identify the first two tracks and it's got NOTHING...

No even numbers on vinyl, so there will not be a vinyl release.

Does anyone know the song on track 6 @ 8:07?? I imagine it has something to do with Miles Davis and it sounds like Four Tet sampled the drum break for one of his tracks...

your review is good, but the tracks on Advanced Jazz aren't all music by the artist that the title was named after. there are tons of other artists other than those 10 on there. just so you know.

a good thing he said this

I've never been a fan of jazz or even given it much of a chance

in his intro

perhaps some of the guys in the painting actually have no songs in the mix at all

have we started putting a tracklisting together ? :)

thanks man...and yeah I was kinda worried about that while writing the review for Advanced Jazz because, as much as I love it, I have virtually NO idea what any of the songs are or made them..

i took a stab at it a couple times assuming the artist for whom the track was named was the same guy performing on the track...otherwise I just said "the 3 min mark of the Deodato track" or whatever

am I right that the dude speaking at the opening is Miles Davis?

definitely wanna see a tracklist for this

Definitely aint Miles.

And Nobodaddy, you've never given jazz a chance, but a couple of Madlib releases were enough to turn you on to it? Sorry but I find that slightly odd.

I've been kind of a narrow-minded hip hop fan (Nas, Wu-Tang, all that stuff) for most of my music-listening life...which is maybe pretty odd

of course, the hip hop i listen to often samples Jazz and i've always loved Nina Simone, Al Green, and the other SOUL classics but I honestly never listened to any stuff from guys like Miles, Coltrane, etc.

I've been getting more and more into Madlib since first hearing Madvillainy but never thought to touch the YNQ albums or anything like that until earlier this year...and honestly I didn't like it at first. Took a few smoked-out listening sessions til I really caught on to the beautiful vibe
