Based on those snippets this will easily be the best medicine show yet. potentially the best since the lost tapes.

We've also got the CD at $14, and the digital & regular 2LP coming.

The 3LP is not for everyone, but it is 35 because it's three full records of music (98 mins) + individually printed covers. These small-run "deluxe" editions are made by people who like cool records in cool packages, for people who like cool records in cool packages. So far each of these Madlib Medicine Shows have had the 'nice-price' option and the 'extra shit' option - we're not doing just one or the other.

I like cool records in cool packages but I'm not middle class so I can't afford it. No wonder downloading is so prevalent hey.

Im almost positive that 25 to 30 minutes can fit on one side of vinyl, so why does ST almost never put any more than 15 minutes on a side? A key example is the Madvillain album which is 46 minutes but its 2lp, that could have easily been put on one LP, but it is put on two to make people seem like they are getting more than they really are. It seems as if the same thing is being done here. 90 minutes is hardly three full records of music.

actually i believe the optimal amount of time per side of a 33 1/3 12in record is around 15 minutes( maybe its 13?)
the more time you put on a side of a record the closer the grooves have to be together. also the maximum volume decreases.

a) What is wrong with closer grooves? I have hundreds of records that play just fine and have 40-50 minute playing times
b ) Maybe I am wrong, but not many people max the volume out when playing vinyl.

I'm just adding my 2 cents into the above conversation....James Pants' Seven Seals was released on one LP, and I was very pleased with that decision!

it sounds better if its recorded as loud as possible without distortion, or close to it. to answer your second question, it seems as if you have never djed at a club with real records before. depending on the situation (equipment, how many people are there, how big of a room etc) some pressings wouldnt be good enough.

this is hip hop, its meant to be played loud.

I thought about this before, but I just figured that the majority of people buying these releases would be listening at home as opposed to a club.

Once you start cramming on more than 20 minutes of music the quality of the pressing will almost definitely suffer.

boogie is correct about side length. for this reason there are only a couple ST records that go over the 15 min mark per side.

san carlos -- yes we sold out of our copies today. we will post a list of stores which will carry the 3LP some time this month. it will be at the usual spots.

Can't wait for this to come out, but i don't know how the shipping costs went from 5.00 to 17.00 dollars over the course of a month. I kind of feel like a sucker for purchasing anything from here anymore. I initially planned on owning the entire collection on CD, but if shipping costs are still this high next release then i won't be buying it.

the shipping cost for me was $6 and some change..and i live in los angeles...i wish there was an option where i could pick up the merchandise instead of having it shipped..ill still continue to purchase these releases despite these shipping costs..but it would be nice if i could pick it up from stonesthrow..

But you will still loose quality... i saw this a while ago. I kinda got it before but it really made more sense as to how the whole thing works.
