yo whats up fam. ive been wanting to get some turntables for quite a while now so that i can start collecting records and also so i can sample. Im thinking of getting some portable ones, but i want to know if i could plug my computer speakers in them. And if the quality of the transfer to my computer will be good. Im thinking of buying this one because it has good reviews.

http://www.amazon.com/Vestax-Handy-Trax-Po...e/dp/B0000WRVK0

but since everyone in here is a vynil head i though id ask for some advice and maybe recommendations. im looking to spend no more than 150. thats my budget.

but if its worth the extra money to shell out for some more expensive ones then reccomend them.

have you checked out the Numark PT-01? I have one of those and haven't had any problems with it.

the portable turntables are good for listening to records / hooking up to sample from, but not for scratching or anything though, if you think you'll want to get into that get a better TT.

good investment sir.

i own the handy trax by vestax myself altho its about $20 more than the PT by Numark the sound quality is loud and clear.

the Numark doesnt bang that much but it does save alot of space due to its design.and it comes with a slipmat.the vestax gives you a metal platter but you can scratch on it nonetheless.vestax has made the stylus for the HT so you can replace them when neeeded

i prefer the vestax over the numark because of its fullness in sound.

but if you want affordability and features i suggest you go with the Numark,(the new ones with the USB connection)

this is what i recommend

http://www.turntablelab.com/production_too...1767/48528.html

http://www.turntablelab.com/production_too...1767/57377.html

both are portables and come with a USB interface and Audacity software for vinyl ripping

http://www.turntable.../2493/5004.html

the vestax however does not have USB so you would have to get yourself a Dual RCA cable such as

http://www.turntable...2196/22089.html

it will be a direct source.if your soundcard is sufficient there would be no problems about the quality of the rip.

but if you do not have a good card i think this would suffice

http://www.turntablelab.com/production_too...5/216/2248.html

and about the Vestax not being able to be a work horse think again

hope it helps.

yo good lookin out on the respond. Much appreciated.

but i went with the numark ttusb. i wasnt really looking for anything portable. i just thought u needed a mixer for a regular turntable. But i got this at guitar center for the same price as i would the portable one.

it comes with software and a needle so im happy :D

regular turntables usually needs a mixer or preamp to run thru a speaker system to get a full sound

but the new portable ones has a headphone input or a RCA line in/out that only needs the RCA cables with the headphone jack end so you can run it thru any computer speaker system if needed.

since thats settled time to go look for some fat plastic.

boosting is encouraged ,.but dont take my word for it tho. :D

yo does anyone know why when i record records to my computer i get a bunch of static noise. like dead air. the noise the tv makes when its on a bad channel. it sucks because i have to filter the record and i cant filter the highs without getting a static noise. does this have to do with not having a mixer like madbluntedjazz said?

my turntable has rcaphono/line cable but i dont wanna connect that to my speakers because it said in the book that it could mess them up if i dont plug it in with the right option.

also. what is the gain knob on the bottom for?

i do not use a mixer,i use a dual rca and run it thru the line in option and no the headphone out

like turning your computer into a speaker.
i have not had any problems about that

check your microphone line options and mute it.

check the stylus for dust

or

try adjusting the volume of your turntable to a lower setting because the vibration around does effect the tone arm.

and this might help, unless youve already checked it out.

My old technics makes a loud ass hum/static noise when I play it through the MPC, but I have to turn the rec gain all the way up, that's when it starts..

would a pre amp solve that?

So you hook the turntable straight into the mpc?
A ground wire should probably help (most mixers should have something in the back that says "GND"

I thought that would work, but I don't have anything to ground it to (I think, and I don't have a mixer)

The replacement styli for the handy trax are like the same price as a fancy turntablist styli (m447). what a bunch of BS!
