Completely accurate with Family Guy in its current self-masturbatory state.
When Family guy started, right up until the 4th season, there were some truly legendary moments and its exposure of possible dark undertones of every sitcom on US tv in the last 30 years was brilliant. Now every fucking joke is a cutaway scene or a "this is worse than the time..." setup lines; which in fairness they have parodied themselves (Stewie setting u a line and then waiting in silence before going "oh we dont have a clip? ok moving on..."), but South Park (which was getting better and better right up until this last season which was a bit wayward) are waaaaaay above them in the rankings of animated adult shows because it deals with current issues as well as being pant-pissingly funny and downright childish in the best way possible.
Simpsons went from being one kind of brilliant, to being a bit patchy and random round seasons 14-16 back to being another kind o brilliant. And always could be watched at any time of day by kids and adults of all ages thanks to their excellent writing & family-yet-not-so-family oriented style of humour.

what he said.
They definitely both have their strong seasons. If I watch a truly excellent episode of Simpsons, I always think "This is better than Family Guy" but the opposite happens too.
Right now I am watching all the Futurama's which I had all but written off for years - now though, IMO this is a seriously underrated show. Same goes though, some episodes are shockers, some are brilliant.
I'm also watching Sit Down, Shut Up, and loving it. It's helping ease my Arrested Development withdrawal symptoms.

Best gage is Simpsons at its best Vs Family Guy at its best. Simpsons wins hands down, all day long.

not sure what's wrong with them, but FG is taking a serious dip now too. I think Fox has pimped out the franchise too much. American Dad worked, but does anybody watch Cleveland?

yah and Cleveland does suck. I like the bear, but why not have a Quagmire show? that could have worked. more then Cleveland anyway.

I'm not a FG hater, it can be funny and that's the main reason for watching comedy but I'd chuck that shit in the chipper over most other stuff.

Family Guy is just cheap pop culture references and attempts at gross-out humour. South Park's Imaginationland trilogy stuck a whole bundle of obscure geek references with some sick jokes and wrapped it up in a big ball of satire. South Park is better than Family Guy in my opinion but The Simpsons beats both as it's timeless in a way that goes back to the silent movies. In 20 yrs time no-one will get the gags in Family Guy as they're basically all about 80s teen flicks. I don't hate Family Guy. I just will never love it.
