I'm in. Son of a beotch this sample was hard to fuck with. Fuck the eighties.

A couple comments on my beat. I guess I need to explain my beat in a little more detail. A few seem to think I m not utilizing the sample (not playing by the rules). So here is break down of this track(s) (11 tracks in this beat)

Track 1 - at 3:02 of the sample there is a snare and guitar, I looped that (roughly 3:02 to 3:03), I then used a three band eq and dropped the low, and adjusted the mid and high (very simple filtering). It is in the entire beat, panned slightly left (about 10:00)
Track 2 - at 3:35 of the sample there is a fuckin' stupid sick bassline loop (roughly 3:35 to 3:37). Again, three band eq, dropped the mid and high band, controlled the low and gain. Fuckin A! I got a bass line
Track 3 - this is where the fun for me begins. Main guitar riff I made. This one panned left. All recorded direct into the board (save the amp for different type of music)
Track 4 - same guitar line replayed panned right
Track 5 - that guitar you hear that sounds real "surfer/stoner" reverbed out
Track 6 - cuts (DMC - Ah Yeah)
Track 7 - cuts (white noise, etc.)
Track 8 - kick drum
Track 9 - clap
Track 10 - hi-hat
Track 11 - radio intro

Now I slowed the original sample down about 20 BPMs and pitched it down 1 step. The bass line was in the key of Bb, my beat is in A.

What more can I say...

Glad people are liking the sample. Was gonna post some shamisen (I know there are a few otaku's on here) but there are lots of 'clicks' everytime the dude plays a string, I dunno, thought against it, pretty intensive chop job

i have to say this is the hardest thing i've ever had to sample i couldnt figure out what the hell i wanted to do with it. 80s samples always give me trouble though but i ended up doing something real different from what i usually do...

This sample was pretty difficult for me too.

Had to do three different ones and choose the best out of the three.

I think the thing with some 80s music is the down beat (first beat of the bar) isn't emphasised. It's hard to explain what I mean, but if you listen to the chorus, the 'rumours' phrase begins at the end of the preceding bar, so the 'feel' of the bar really begins at the end of the bar. It's still 4/4, but the feel is kinda behind the beat. So if you're used to chopping on the quarter-beat you won't get a loop that sounds the way it does in your head...
making any sense?

^^ Sorta.. so he starts singing the chorus before the last bar of the verse ends..

The hard thing about sampling this is the drums are in the way. Like a lot of other samples its always the existing drums that get in the way..

So tricky.

^_^

Yeah sorta kinda.

But I always love a challenge, and this provided a good one for me. Had to step out of my comfort zone a bit.

yeah i had a little trouble this week, the main reason i don't like sampling 80s music is that the drums get in the way... however it challenged me and so i did things i wouldn't usually do.

Also great beats so far!

sugio you hit it right on the nose with the sorta off beat vocals and the loud drums. didnt take me long to chop but i didnt like any of the chops so i kinda went the generic way and chose the sax part
