I need to get samples from my vinyl into my PC and I dont own a phone preamp to digital device. Does anyone have any recommendations for the best entry level USB audio interface or is there a cheaper solution, better PCI sound card w/ inputs?
Thanks for any advice.

if it does you can plug the rca cord coming out of your mixer into it and record. it's better that way than by usb

My sound card should have a line in but its an onboard sound card built into the motherboard so I feel sound quality may be kinda garbage. Ill try it out though.

This might be an alright solution.

Radio Shack and even Walmart have USB turntables in a similar price range.
Here is a Numark one that I heard is pretty decent.

Another option is getting a USB or firewire audio interface, but you will need an amp of some sort for the TT or get something that already has an amp built in.
A Numark PT-01, and a cable like this....

...going from the headphone jack of the PT-01 into your soundcard will work as well.

I guess I should have stated that I have a Technic 1200, the mixer I have is a crap Behringer one but works for now. I'll using the line in on the onboard soundcard but I know its gonna be pretty lackluster.

Yeah if you already have a TT and just want to record some records what you have will do. I used to do that too. Honestly, the results are probably not going to be as bad as you think. Could they be better? Yes, but you would have to invest in a really good quality sound card or external audio interface.

I bought an M-Audio Audiophile 192. It has 1/4" ins and outs, midi ins and out and monitor outs. I just bought 2 rca to 1/4" adapters radio shack to plug in my mixer.

I was wondering about replacement needles for my PT-01 as well. I got an idea for an alternative though. At walmart they have this olden days fake wooden style TT with a CD recorder. They sell a pack of replacement needles for it pretty cheap. You get a few needles in the pack, and they look practically identical to what's on the PT-01
This is the TT

If you can find that in the store the replacement needles are usually near it.
Honestly, they look so similar I may pick up a pack at some point and give them a try. With Walmarts return policy there's little risk if they don't work.
