yep, I just checked out the store. "Madlib's BEAT KONDUCTA IN AFRICA: with the first limited editions of the double LP packaged in individually screen printed sleeves and a bonus 45." I think i'm gonna get a record player and get this, iv been wanting one of these screen printed LP's and with a bonus 45, this is a good time to start getting some vinyl. Any suggestions on a good record player for a beginner that's cheap?

Whatever you do make sure you get a direct drive. The belt-drives are a lot cheaper...but for a reason <_< .

I have three Stanton STR8-100s and I love them! I think they were discontinued a few years back though. I'm pretty sure you could scour the internet to find one. But you'll also need a mixer so make sure to do some research on those as well.

Word, Iv been checking out that turntable and it looks good to me, now whats the deal with the Mixer? I will need one even if i'm just using the one record player?

and I got lots of speakers, will I be able to just hook them up with speaker wire to this?

Numark PT 01 is nice and portable, and has a built in (crappy) speaker, 100 bucks at Guitar Center, and no mixer needed (has a headphone out)

Or The Stanton T.52x, 110 bucks (needs a mixer)

Both are belt driven and it doesn't really matter if all you're gonna do is listen to music.

right on, Thanks for the info on a cheap set up. Now for more advanced gear training.. That Stanton STR8-100 looked like it could do some cool things and I probably wont ever have to upgrade it if i get that one or something similar to it. Whats a good but basic mixer to go with it? and what other pieces of equipment would be required for it to get my room bumping when the African Beats come in the mail?

I'm not much of a wise guy when it comes to more pro turntables, but if got the dough, look more along the lines of Technics. Those will last you a nuclear war and then some.

A mixer doesn't matter much either, as long as it's decent. I'm ghetto so I got a radioshack mixer for 20 and it's just like any other mixer, with 4 channels and a 7 band EQ B)

Obviously for bangin beats you gotta have a bangin stereo <_<

if you are just using it to sample from then a decent hi fi turntable is the way to go, but if you want to cut then you need a technics 1200(or 1210 or so on)

if you are going to use a portable then go with the vestax or the gp3 as the sound out of a Numark is not so gret (although i use my numark in the field as it is sturdier and louder than any of my other portables)

he's saying that if you're just listening or sampling a belt drive is good, but if you're doing dj stuff, get a direct drive (technics, etc.). they start up at full speed right when you hit the start button, as opposed to the belt drives, which start more slowly.

the vestax handy trax portable is the recommendation over the numark PT-01 portable, for sound quality. but the numark wins in looks and ruggedness.

I wouldn't buy a portable turntable unless you wanna actually use it as one.

Before I bought my turntables for djing I had bought an old second hand one. Dunno if you have any stores like it in your area but I got mine from this place that sold allsorts of old decent (expensive in their day) hi fis for real cheap. Just look for something that sounds pretty nice if you're just gonna be listening to records or possibly sampling.

You need a phono pre-amp with a ground wire attachment (the least) b/c the turntable runs at a different frequency than RCA cables (other wise ur not going to get much sound). a lot of mixers have them included.

Numark Vestex and Technics are good. I like the statton cartridges there chill.

Own: Numark TT200
