I have been a casual listener of his for awhile. I just listened to the decade of flying lotus mix by gaslamp killer, and I have come to the conclusion that I don't really care for him. Don't get me wrong, they arent horrible, but...

1. All the beats sound the same.

2. All the beats have sounded the same for the last 10 years.

3. (There is no 3)

4. These beats make me wanna fall asleep.

That is just my opinion, yo.

Ahhh... opinions indeed. Would you not want to rephrase and say:

you're not into his music?

H!

I'm a huge Flying Lotus fan... and it really hurts me to hear you say this... did you hear Los Angeles? if you didn't hear Los Angeles.. then its kind of understandable why you didn't like the Decademix... Anyways I've come to the conclusion that you just don't like Flying Lotus. :(

I am glad you have come to that conclusion. I have listened to Los Angeles, but nothing sticks out to me as being that great. Could you suggest a track to listen to? I really enjoy the Shhh! ep. (The first 2 tracks anyway.)

that mix was certainly yawn-worthy. i can see your argument sort of with the beats sounding the same. if they make you fall asleep that isn't a negative thing is it?

and what was the point of #3?

I'm sorry if I came off as JADED or a TROLL. I'm just not feeling Flying Lotus like everyone else seems to be. Sorry. I just feel his beats are kinda all the same and not very complex or memorable. To me, they all have the same feel to them.

Exactly he is not that dope. He should start having some emcees or some shit. Thought he was kinda dope at first. Just like Jay Electronica.

Man...
Freakin' listen to Auntie's Lock/Infinitum.
Everyone hates on that song, I think it's really tight though...doesn't really sound like anything else he's ever done.

i can see what youre saying, he can get overhyped, but who doesnt anymore? i guess it comes down to how he chops and samples that seem repetive and same bpm or whatever but i like the guy cause he can make my head nod and i can easily listen to an album without interruption.

Alright, I am feeling "Pet Monster Shotglass" off of 1983. And of course I enjoy "Auntie's Lock/Infinitum." Mrs. Daedelus should have sung on the whole album.

Man LA is one of my favorite things to come out of hip hop in a while...surprised you're not feeling it.....

I admit I haven't really gotten into the remix EPs...I bought them but haven't listened much.

I don't think Los Angeles is the best example of his work - although its cool, I think it does come off as a bit samey and I think some of his more recent stuff (Heat Wave 2, Glendale Galleria, etc) has moved this sound forward and deviated from it. I would go for the Reset EP, Shhhh as you mentioned, and some of his older beat tapes for a bit more variation.

Interesting opinion, but:

1. Tea Leaf Dancers, 1983, GNG BNG, and the Game Over remix for example dont sound the same at all.

2. I haven't been listening to him for 10 years, not til 2006 but Tea Leaf Dancers, 1983, GNG BNG, and the Game Over remix for example dont sound the same at all.

3. no rebuttal needed

4. only tracks that make me want to sleep are Infinitum, Tronix...andddd thats about it.
