You need to check out this live-session (with singer Fatima) recorded for the Gilles Peterson show!

More from him can be found on his SoundCloud page, including most of his tracks, some mixtapes and remixes. Personal favourites are K&G Beat, For You and Vacuum Boogie.

Planet Mu is one of my favorite electronic/dubstep labels.

If you like floating points, check out Gemmy:

Nice.

Floatingpoints aka FPS (né Sam Shepherd) is one of my faves.

That love me like this record got shit popping like whoa last year. Became a club banger. Ironically, he banged that one out in no time as he told me this summer.

Oddly enough, I was all over this other joint that came out @ the same time called SHANGRILA.

I've posted about him in the past, and had some music up, including the above stated joint. Peep it.

But I got to sit with him and his Eglo Records fam this past summer: Alex Nut, Fatima and he. Dude is a full time scientist. Don't know where he finds time for the music. But i'm hella glad he does. Sh*t is bananas.

K&G beat is still one of MY FAVES. Banged that joint out all summer 2009 during this tour I did. Just played it again. So sick.

Is this stuff dubstep/electronic/house? I've just jumped on the Benji B boat recently too, and wow. I think I preferred the End of Year Special Part 1 more than Part 2. Previously, to an extent, I had denied this (what you might call) uptempo genre, but some of this shit is undeniably nice. The artists which have caught my ear (either by dope tracks, or constant mention by Benji) are:

Mark Pritchard (Afrika Hi Tek etc.)
Skream
Zed Bias
Joy Orbison
Silkie
Floating Points

I went in search of these the other day without much luck; but I did happen to pickup 5 Years Of Hyperdub (review) which was recommended by a dude at the shop (I thought that might be an alright starting point for a n00b). It's a compilation with artists like Kode9, Samiyam, Flying Lotus, Mala, Joker etc. - which tbh, I don't know, but I've heard Benji mention them time-and-time again.

Yet to give it a thorough listen, but nice for something new!

Man, do not get me started on Mark Pritchard aka Harmonic 313 aka 1/2 Afrika Hi tech.

He had what I feel is one of the best years in music.

He released: When Machines Exceed Human Intelligence (Warp)

Posted Image

I felt it was a strong record this year. Kept with the theme on the record, and dude is a stickler for sound a quality production and does all of it himself. Record was a big one despite being in the company of label mates FlyLo and HudMo.

He also released quietly, one of Warp's best selling singles (if not tops) this year: Battlestar rmx feat Phat Kat & Elzhi (that he produced). The video was up for an award as well.

He was also responsible for a banger called Wind It Up which was released on Hyper Dub this year...

Lastly, the Afrika Hi-Tech stuff is long awaited and has been leaked here and there. Benji def got some as it also features Mark Pritchard's good friend and fellow Aussie Spacek. That will be a big record next year on Warp.

You should go cop this joint called "Turn it on" ft Spacek. That came out on Sonar Collective a few yrs back. Here's the instr.

Anyhow, Hyper Dub 5 is a decent place to start for a cool mix. The FlyLo is a nice one, and the Sam stuff on it was released previously as was the Joker bizness. There are some great records on there as well, but there's so much in that scene right now but i'm sure that a bit of research will set you straight.

You should give Mary Anne Hobbs' show a listen. I think you'll dig it, and she should also put you in the right lane.

Oh, but I want to  It seems like half the time I hear an amazing track on Benji B, this man is responsible.

Ah, cool thanks. I knew he had a few monikers but I didn't realise this was him. I was looking for some Harmonic 313 tracks the other night, heh. Reminds me of the first time I heard Quas: *Hmm, this guy has a strange voice* then after a while you can hear by the rapping style it's Madlib.

Anyway, I've added this to my wishlist and will cop it soon. Thanks.

Wow, they seem to come up with new video effects all the time; but that was really cool. I think I can see what you're saying about him being a stickler for sound quality production. Nice.

Yep, I remember this well from Benji B.

"Long awated" - yes I can believe that. "Fellow Aussie" - heh, that's kinda cool. Now I had heard he was Aussie, but I did a quick google the other day and thought I found he was from the UK - but obviously not. Would I be correct in assuming he moved to the UK? Is that the centre of this dubstep/electronic scene?

As for the Turn It On track, yeah I listened to this on Mark's discog page the other day - very nice. I think I've now joined the masses eagerly awaiting a release from these two dudes.

Ok thanks for the quick run down on that release. I'd like to give that show a listen, do you know if there's a blog which offers a download for the show? (I assume that's not against STMB guidelines, as it's released FTA)

Oh man, Floating Points has been on fire this year. Love me Like This started as a very short beat with pretty much just the sample. After encouragement he made the epic version you hear on the Youtube vid.
Dude's crazy. Vacuum EP is solid as fuck.

Mark Pritchard & Steve Spacek are not Ozzies, they're both English.

Floating Points is a wicked producer, enjoyed everything I've heard from him so far.
