i agree totally with your points, except you wouldn't end up with the music you get at the record store..........e diggin is legit i guess, but its a totally different approach than me being in the record store diggin through what they got to offer, buy your records, rip em to digital, and sell em if thats the case, but can't be dismissin a good stack of wax

Wrote a bit about my thoughts on RSD last night after seeing people in line which I thought was pretty crazy http://waxramble.com...e-day-2015-meh/

I ended up just buying Run the Jewels 2 and BBNG III last night instead, none of the RSD 2015 releases were looking good to me (lol @ almost $30 for Fuck the Police btw)

Yeah I totally bought "Fuck the Police". Also got the Black Star 7". Expensive, gimmicky, but totally worth it. I looked for the "Love" Single by J Dilla, couldn't find it.

Yeah unfortunately i couldn't snag any of the few things i was interested in. ended up snagging a cheap copy of Lou Reed's The Blue Mask, just because.

becoming? i dunno where in the world your at but in the uk it has been for about 4 years, i tend to hit up second hand record fairs on the day  but i have been in a store on RSD about 2 years ago and the etiquette was terrible

RSD is like the day after Thanksgiving.  Cats getting in line for "door buster" exclusives & over priced bull.  You can dig because of all the fair weather record cats.  I've done it every year, but more and more I'm getting annoyed and fed up with it.

^ I looked for it. Couldn't find it.

The guy who owned the store said he got at least one of almost everything. I guess KMD was one of the few things he didn't get.

This was my first year doing RSD. All in all, it was kind of disappointing/annoying/cool all at the same time. I expected cooler people to be there, but everyone was just annoying. But generally it was fun. I may or may not do it again next year.

Record Store Day is Tuesday for me, because i don't need some crazy marketing campaign to be a fucking real person that patronizes his/her local record shops...

it's just a thing people should do whenever they can and feel like it.

you shouldn't have to shove records down peoples' throats like they're this new trendy thing.

Backpacker in front of me grabbed the only copy.  BUT I had the Dilla FTP 7" he wanted.  Dude wouldn't trade, so phawk 'em.  I then bought the KMD joint on my phone while still in the store.

On a side note, as that douche was looking over my shoulder as I was diggin through the tapes, I found The Roots "Things Fall Apart" on cassette.  (used for $8, which was too much IMO for a used tape)  I pointed it out to the cat and he goes, "Oh... is that an exclusive?"  "Naw... it's a dope album."  "Huh... never heard of it.  Should I check it?"  (sigh)  "Yeah, homie... it's one of The Roots best albums."  SMH

Got everything I was after this year (which wasn't much), except one thing.
I'm looking for one of the pink Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings 7".
If anybody knows of one for sale let me know.

and the etiquette was terrible

It's good to live in a smaller town where only 25 to 30 people show up.. everyone was pretty cool.

I bought some online and some in the store. spent too much and now I have to unload some of the stuff that's nonessential

Although I don't partake in the RSD hoopla (instead I went to a local thrift store and scored a super rare Latin Pachanga 45 for $0.50, along with the Philip Glass Koyaanisqatsi soundtrack for $1.00), I do see the value of it in terms of keeping records alive. Anything that sparks a lot of hype and gets casual record buyers more into it is a good thing in my book.

Koyaanisqatsi - I picked that one up at a thrift store myself. I always do most of my digging at goodwill or salvation army, it seems like when I dig at real record shops I end up with overpriced, seriously mediocre joints. At thrift shops I consistently find gold for dirt cheap

good looks on the Phillip Glass soundtrack...

his work always reminds me of hip-hop, just in the way its structured and everything loops endlessly.

that film is so fucking great, it hurts my spine.

I lied when I said I wasn't interested in any RSD stuff, didn't realize that Black Star 7" had the Madlib/Oh No tracks on there, figured it was just a repressing of some random songs from the old album. Grabbed that on Fat Beats online for $15, kind of a gimmick but having those tracks on wax is nice.
