Sp-1200 vs MPC
Posted 05 March 2008 - 07:20 PM
I've fallen in love with the SP-1200.. Those drums. Damn.
If I had the choice between an SP and an MPC... Which should I grab.
Also... Were should I get an SP. Ebay only? Anyone know anywhere in Tdot I could find one?

Never liked the mpc, fell in love w/ the 1200 immediate and my buddy's. Go with your gut. I'm sure everyone will say to go with instinct.

right im no expert but from what i know its 12 bit for a start and doesnt it have some chip/convertor/whatever that gives it that crunchy warm sound? anyways they do make drums sound good but unless the guy has some money to burn dont get one just cos *insert producer* made *insert classic track* on one, they are pretty limiting if thats all your gonna use,if you have other equipment to use in conjunction then yeah get it
infact fuck it get it if you think its for you i personally wouldnt get it unless i had a some spare cash hanging around that i didnt know what to do with
oh and JustAnotherDj dont you feel that the mpc has a rather cold lifeless sound to it? (i have one myself)

I do use quite a lot of effects (mini kaoss pad), and mix using a tascam 8 track, maybe i rescue some mixes with that.
havent really thought about it.

the nicest way to get some nice sound out of 12bit gear is to record a sample at a very high pitch, and then pitch it down inside the sampler after recording it. This will result in the wellknown sp1200 madlib dirt/glitter.
As for the whole 1200 vs mp thingie.. You gotta decide what you want, cause the sp1200 wont give you alotta features but it'll surely give your samples a nice sound. The mp has more features and doesn't allways sound as dope as the 1200.
If it's your first sampler, i wouldn't recommend buying a 1200.. Alotta people will probably say that simple is good, and I agree in most cases, but you gotta learn all your basics and shit before stripping down your possibilities. Buy the 1200 later as a supplement to the mp... or do whatever the fuck you want
