Is this ever a nerd convention. Yeah, too many to name.

But, I will say that I thought he peeled my dome back with the BK India shit. I had long been getting blunted to those movies and when he added his twist on the cheap production it was spinning gold in my opinion. That shit bumps.

soon the new day.

that was the first beat i ever heard by Madlib...in fact, it took me years to realize it was even produced by him, i just thought the song itself was amazing beforehand. in other news:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QrvgEAuBe18

i've been listening to these beats off the Expressions Instrumentals LP a lot lately...i prefer them more than the actual songs on there.

Man there's so much stuff to list here. It depends on what I'm into (out of all of his alter egos) at the moment and the mood. Lately I've been having Quasimoto, Madvillain and Jaylib on heavy rotation, so right now it's all about: Bistro, Eye, Accordion, Sparkdala, Fatbacks, Maingirl, Don't Blink, The Clown (Episode C), Hydrant Game, Astro Travellin', Bluffin', Real Eyes, Greenery, The Official, Closer aaand Strapped (this beat is pure concrete). I'll stop here before I end up naming all the songs off these albums.

it's all about: Bistro,

actually, i'm pretty sure "Bistro" was an uncredited DOOM beat...it has an unmistakable DOOM flavor, and uses a record we know he has in his vinyl... (he uses a lot of Atlantic Starr on his solo work).

Well I haven't analyzed all of his samples in-depth but if it's so then it might have been the case that DOOM lent Madlib the vinyl so he could sample it, so yeah it could be an 'uncredited' DOOM beat because it's just a loop, but a goddamn perfect one. No doubt that there has been teamwork (even if it were mere suggestions) on the production throughout the album.

i may be over analyzing this, but on Bistro doom says "live on the beats we have the one and only Madlib, we also have King Geedorah on the mix. Yesterday's New Quintet is here. Viktor Vaughn. Quasimoto. And I'm your host, the super villain."

now it's all made sense to me except the Geedorah part. Madlib produced (all) the songs, YNQ is on (atleast) Great Day playing the Stevie sample, Viktor Vaughn is on Fancy Clown, Quas is on America's Most Blunted and Shadows of Tomorrow, and of course Doom is the rapper/host.

if Bistro was produced by Doom, that'd give King Geedorah his part in the mix

Now you have a valid point there. But who knows...we'll never know the villain's ways...the 'strange ways'.

I think the film audio samples on Madvillainy were DOOM's apport but Madlib did all the beats. Can Mau check his copy of the 100 beats cd and tell us if Bistro's on there or not :P
After Madvillainy Madlib did sample 80s records a lot more though. So the influence is not very debatable

Co-sign. The newest 12" (I refuse to call them EPs) has some excellent instrumentals, especially that 'King Herion' flip.

Side note: That picture of The Madlib in the video above is fucking awesome!

yep:

http://www.radio1190.org/

i'm on usually on Fridays from ~12:00pm-2:00pm. i'm supposed to just play what we have in current rotation, but i've started doing themed shows and playing a lot of the music i'm into...for example, last week was electronica/microhouse week. before that was Jonwayne week. tomorrow's just gonna be a whatever kinda day, cause of midterms...but i'm gonna be playing some ST shit, some instrumentals, some vinyl, etc.

Oh wow

That was heavy

Sounds like he made it in about 20 mins yet it has more groove than most beat makers could hope for ever

Perfect.

Wonder what responses "least favorite madlib beat" would get...
