To be totally honest the way this album was marketed is kind of a fail. From the outset I thought that one would be a hip hop record and the other would be a jazz record, which to me seemed like a cool idea. I guess I was just confused by the first few announcements though.

For some reason, I thought the same thing. I was expecting to hear some masamba unit type stuff, esp after the bit about intersecting jazz and hip hop was highlighted in the description. The jazzy beats in alone sounded like retreaded ground and I felt like I missed something new or exciting.

The albums ok, but as a debut album and knowing he makes raw beats I was let down a little. Starting to wonder if as a music consumer I should have expectations or just except things as how they come.

Both albums combined are a definite good listen ... my only gripe after repeated play is that some tracks are kind of long and lacking transitions. Truth be told at times you'd get lost in the looped samples. If both albums were released as one album with shorter joints it would have good LP value.

Wondering if we might get to hear some MC's over some of these beats.
Saw this tweet from KR:

Maybe another release soon? Alone/Together with vocals?

Man, I wish I would have never listened to the samples to this...wasn't feeling the album at all. Then I got curious and got it off iTunes. This is a highlight of 2012 and a real good release.

damn, looks like Together LP is sold out pretty much everywhere,
anyone know if it's a distribution issue, if they're pressing more or what?
I notice that despite being released earlier, the Alone LP is still in stores.
Is Together really so good that everyone bought that and ignored Alone?
Well I ordered Alone anyway, just looking for Together now...

hooray, i found a 'Together' on AccessHipHop.com
I also copped the remix 12" of dudley's 'come here my dear'
shit, it's got an MED verse on it, plus I always liked sadat x,
it'll be nice to hear him over a madlib beat.

From the ST description:

Description: We've released over a hundred albums in over 15 years, but here's our first album cover tee. It's Karriem's Alone Together record, cover by Jeff Jank, photo by Gerard Victor, printed on Ei-Lo crew in California.

But how do they explain this?

Definitely one of my top albums of the year... I didn't feel it needed rap personally. It showcases Karriem as a virtuoso musician in the forefront rather than giving him a supporting role on his own album. And if I feel like hearing Karriem with raps, I'll listen to Stones Throw Podcast #74 - another one of my favorite moments in music this year.

.... he fuckin' killed it with "together"!!! Madlib who? Nah, Madlib is my dude.

^ I love this quote cause I feel exactly the same lol. Of course nobody can take Madlib's place in my heart. But with Karriem, there might just finally be someone else who's on Madlib's level... something that hasn't happened since Dilla passed.
