I still remember the first time I saw this video on Mtv Brand New on Mtv Europe, must've been late 2003. Didn't have internet back then so I would flip through the channels every now and then hoping to see the video.

if it weren't for Kanye, i wouldn't have ever started paying attention to the production of tracks i liked...and i wouldn't have learned about sampling, which wouldn't have brought me to expand my musical tastes, which wouldn't have brought me to listening to Atmosphere and Aesop Rock until the day i discovered Madvillainy, which wouldn't have led me to producing beats myself, which wouldn't have led to me buying an SP-303 sampler, which wouldn't have brought me here to these message boards...

so basically, Kanye is in a weird way the reason why i got into music in the first place-- so no matter how shitty his new material may get, i still gotta give the man props for keeping it together under all that pressure for so long and managing to be one of the best to ever do it in hip-hop, at least on a mainstream level.

Same thing with me, I didn't know about sampling until I saw him mention an MPC in one of his early interviews, before that I just thought A Tribe Called Quest and the rest of them golden age groups were just some beast azz musicians lol.

As far as my favorite Ye song it would have to be "Gone".

West > Carter.

On the real though, most rappers are assholes, if not on camera, in music or just simply to other rappers. Half the time it's the really wack guys who are nice people. I think this is due to the lack of artistic-ness, artists are always kinda anti-social and find it hard to relate to others who don't understand them...I think Kanye is like this, but a bit of a spoiled brat too.
