Sounds like he wanted to make something like The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of Niggy Tardust! and ended up with something they'd play on a rave on Gossip Girl.

i'm used to the fact that kanye-albums always need some time to grow, but I absolutely don't see it happening this time around. after three failed attempts, i have no desire to revisit this trash. rather spend my time with music that i'm feeling from the get-go

This exactly.

Not to hate and no disrespect to any of you who like his music but I've never been a fan of "pop rap" music. Also still holding a grudge against him for not using the madlib beats.

That being said....how's the album? Haha

I think it's interesting to use "pop rap" to refer to him. I can see it previously, but literally the only song on Yeezus that I could see getting radio play would be Bound 2 (and god DAMN that track, beautiful). And to answer your quesiton, I think this is definitely his most idiosyncratic and ballsy release. MBDTF pushed things in terms of concept, but it delivered for both mainstream and more introspective audiences. This one might not be as accessible for the mainstream but is just as honest and raw, just in a different way. Not to sound ridiculous, but if MBDTF was an atomic bomb, Yeezus serves perfectly as the fallout and epoch.

Also, a lot of people seem to be hatin' on "Hold My Liquor" but I fucking LOVE that track. Really takes me breath away.

Did a quick listen. Seems pretty angry and cold. I don't know why cats don't study solid pop structure, intro verse, chourse, bridge chourse type shit. Easy. Always trying to be futuristic. While I like a good number of his singles I have never bought one of his albums. I ain't about to buy this one.

There some interesting sounds for sure, but it just doesn't hit me. It doesn't seem comfortable. It sounds jaded. I guess he is.

me too, haha- i forgot about that whole debacle...yeah, i'll admit Watch the Throne was pure garbage. but even that crap-album had tracks like "New Day" and "Niggas In Paris"- and that shit's cray.

plus, i'm still holding out on the fact that Kanye's gonna eventually collab with Otis on something...especially if he's going in this more raw direction with his sound.

What was the story with that? I remember reading that there were a slew of producers and guests for MBDTF and some of the tracks didn't make it. Was the Madlib one actually recorded?

Honestly though, we all know The Madlib is years ahead of his time so I bet Yeazus was just like 'Otis sent me that future shit that I'll only be able to drop on my audience in at least a decade or two!'. That's what I've been telling myself the last few years so I can sleep at night.

i think he snatched up those beats for the original concept of Watch the Throne, if i'm not mistaken. WTT was supposed to originally be a 5-track EP with him and Jay-Z going crazy on beats produced by underground dudes like the Lib. unfortunately, it turned into the jumbled, club-friendly mess that it was.

you can still kinda hear the influence though, just listen to the way that beat for the song "Otis" was chopped.

You won't hear any "lyrikal myrikalz" on Yeezus but there's some hilarity on this album. You gotta let your real hip-hop tru skool boom-bap guard down for this album and take it for what it is. It may not be not be an artistic milestone in rap history, but it's definitely entertaining.

This album goes, yo. My body was ready and not disappointed. The production is really good and the album has plenty of highlights.

Knew this would make many people butt hurt. This is next level rap. No College Dropout, even though there are a few College Dropout remnants and during those moments Kanye really shines.

There are leaders and there are followers.

I mean, it is interesting. On Sight and Black Skinhead I think are the best, but overall, for me, he sounds like he is just complaining. Not something I want to put on and relax too.

After talking to Mister, I'm going to take back my "bullshit" comment and say this and I'll be done with the topic cause I'm learning I hate going on and on about shit.

Anyway, I get it back in the day our parents thought only their era had good music, you know the " back in the day we had the temptations and Marvin Gaye real singers ect. " I realize now that I too am doing the same thing only with hip hop so with that said I will let you kids enjoy it without invoking my elitist attitude

Tis all

Against my better judgment I downloaded it and tried really hard to like it but this album is straight garbage. A few of the instrumentals would be ok but the lyrics and delivery are barely listenable. I guess it makes sense since Rick Rubin said Kanye wrote and receorded the vocals for 5 of the songs in the last 2 days before they delivered the album. This dude is so full of himself it's embarrasing.

Sorry for the hate but I couldnt help myself. I'm out of this thread....

I'd kill for a properly mastered MBDTF, man.
