Haven't heard new danger.

Don't worry, not missing anything.

Listened to Black Star again just recently and thought, like someone mentioned about Mos' first album, that it too has dated somewhat. Not that I don't dig it.

Whatever happened to that Black Star reunion album The Madlib was gonna produce. Wasn't 'The Fix Up' premiered on Colbert like four years ago?

All I gotta say is.. how old are you guys? You must have been like 12 when it dropped in '99 and wasn't mature enough to get it. BOBS is up there with Illmatic in my book.. O_o

its a good album i just will probably never listen to it again, that or illmatic, even though they are good ive just grown from the sound ya know, but if i hear one of the songs in a mix or in passing ill jam to it...

I never got into Black Star mainly because I'm not feeling Talib at all, but my brother swears by that album.

I just wanna clarify; mos is OOKAY..... black star is aight. But nothing about ANY of his work is worth what half of illmatic is. Just my two cents: I can't believe they got compared a second time

I'll take The Ecstatic over Illmatic any day, to each his own.

I hope this collab happens this century.
I really rate Mos as a rapper, back in 97-99 he was maybe my favourite MC.
Universal Magnetic, Body Rock, Black Star plus loads of guest spots (most notably the Stakes Is High Remix, Fortified Live, High Drama) all made me think he had a great future...

Then came Black On Both Sides. What a let-down. I mean it's an ok album with a few killer tracks (Mathematics, Ms Fat Booty) but just doesn't hang together as an LP. And that Rock n Roll track, please, no.

He really should have done more with Shawn J Period - they were magic together.
Although I'm not sure I could have put up with Mos's fruitcake behaviour...

anyway, The New Danger was poop. I like The Ecstatic, but again it suffers from a lack of consistency.

Part of the problem (imo) is that he needs to do an album with just one producer instead of using beats from like 5 or 6 different guys.
That's the main reason I want to see this Obey shit happen - a full lp of beats to do Mos Def justice.

ps. very happy to have found this lurking in a dusty corner of my record pile:

I don't even... what?

I always considered Ms Fat Booty as the weakest tracks on that album. Don't really dig the production and it doesn't fit on the album.

The whole album is pretty inconsistent.

ahem, *May-December* ? i don't care if Mos+88 Keys produced it (and it's not that bad of a beat), but the idea of a full-length, 3 1/2 minute instrumental track tapered on the end of any album that otherwise has no instrumentals on it is the definition of inconsistency to me.

Too many themes, he had some great hip hop tracks on there, but some left field crap too. Still a solid album though. I would instantly cop a Bey/Lib/Kweli album of any sort though.

^this. my point exactly

probably why I like it so much. just had a re-listen to make sure I hadn't imagined it and yes, for me it still gets me nodding the head. Fat beats and a soulful vocal sample, what's not to like. Horses for courses, I suppose.

'Oh, indeed.' - Omar Little

I agree with Jimmy all around even down to his opinion about Ms. Fat Booty. Maybe its because I love me some soul flips but probably because its the best beat on the album IMO.

I'm still a big fan of Umi Says. Kind of always hoped for a whole album like that with some smooth Karriem Riggins style production. UBDREAMINSON
