Lol ^^ Ive had several spams from Sublevel. Zzzzz.

Non quantized everything heh altho ill admit to manually shifting some of the snares so they didn't constantly fall on the 4.

hmm. i thought the no quantization thing would be fun, turned out to be a pain in the ass. the latency from my laptop keyboard is too damn high and i can't imagine how to create a drum pattern another way without having it quantized automatically because of the piano roll grid (i'm using FL). btw does the quantization rule also count for the sample chops?

you could turn off the snap thing in the piano roll and click the notes in. i don't think there's a way to record midi data in FL without quantise. it has that auto-quantise thing.. even with snap set to none it allways move notes a bit..

i normally use the snap set to none or 1/6 to slightly adjust the notes when i want to put some swing into the rhythm.
my opinion:
clicking the notes in piano roll (that's what i do every time, recording some input doesn't happen that often) while leaving the snap set to none doesn't make sense at all because i could just be more careful and move the notes in tiny steps.
i guess FL is useless for this week's beat, damn :D
so i understand the rule as something like "bring some life / swing into your drums and have at least one different rhythm."

anyone agree?

Hey beatfux i had the same problem so i looked around online and found that if you go to the audio settings in FL and change the input/output to ASIO4ALL the latency from keyboard/mpd disappears.
Im so haps i discovered this, i had a mpd wasting away cos of this very same issue and now i can finally use it!

Happy beatmaking

Here is my beat for the week:

Its all good with some different rules, but i dont really understand the no quantizing rule, especially when not everyone even uses a midi keyboard.

If people want their beats to sound sloppy, thats great, but i think you need timing equally as much if you want a sloppy dilla type beat because a sloppy beat has got nothing to do with bad timing.

But still im looking forward to hearing peoples beat for this round. im expecting some weirdness:)

thanks man but i already use the asio4all output. i can play as accurate as a f'in metronome, it's still shifted.
i made a beat with the sample anyway but not as entry, so there is quantization and no different drum pattern. you can check it out here if you like ;)

I mean, if you have a good sense of rhythm, then you shouldn't need to quantize at all... especially if it's only for a 4 bars loop!
what do drummers do? (not really a good analogy because drumming is moving your whole body). But, for about any musician, it's not like they have something synching their notes to a locked-in groove, they feel it.
And yeah that means the sample shouldn't be quantized as well. And the bass? that too!

However, I said in the rules that if you click in your notes it's cool to do that... keyboard latency is the worst thing ever. so click away.

I'm not tryna force anyone to change their style, but if I won the battle I should be able to pick some interesting/challenging rules, you wanna pick rules? win the battle.

Thanks to everyone who voted for me. It's thanks to your feedback that I've gotten so much better over this year of battling.

Here is my entry for this week. Been a while since I've participated in one of these (Beat Battle 266 was my last one). I really like how the rules have improved over time and the "No Quantization" thing was pretty cool as well. I'll definitely be checkin' the Soundcloud group daily to hear what everyone came up with.

Peace and enjoy!

WORD ! ! Oso props my g that video is cool yo and this weeks rules were dope combined with that sampled it made for some good inspiration for me.

i use FL and never do i use quantize and i know for a fact if u set it up properly it wont move your notes, just got to make sure you have " none " selected on the playlist grid and ALSO the piano roll,, WORD !. this week for my drum pattern i sampled a break and took a double hihat ( two hits) and played that "pad" every time i would hit a kick and snare on MPD. lil trik for those who dont know if ur lookin for a some what steady (ish) hat pattern

I dont know if this was intended for me, but i pretty much agree with you. Just thought it was a shame for some of the beatmakers who tapped the drums in with their mouse and for the others who had problems with latency...

I rarely use quantize but i almost always correct small errors afterwards even though i play my midikeyboard like a baws;-)
So it was definately a challenge for me not to correct some things afterwards.

But that just shows that it was a challenge, and i propably learned some shit from it so thanks;-)

(maybe i was also a bit too strict with my self as far as i did it in first take, instead of using alot of takes to make it sound exactly how i wanted, but thats my own mistake:)

first of all: thanks OSO for the cool Rules. this is a blueprint round 4 everybody who will be making rules in the future! creativity is guaranteed! --

and the video - I remember FUX playing it in his car all the time!!!

I never think about quantisaziat...? what? when I do a beat outside these battles I'm not intersted in guidelines..or terms...

I had to look up "quantize" in an german/englisch dictionary - because I'm not into the producer scene.
I just make it bounce 4 me and those who love to hear it!

on that note: click on the artwork and have fun to this earconfusion

If you're able to translate the title of my beat into english, you might get a glimpse of what I am thinking bout this round. Otherwise I just keep it Raekwon with y'all for now.
