has anybody heard the NPR First Listen of "Good Times"???????

http://www.npr.org/2...-jae-good-times

holy shit this tape is good...might be his best work to date. the beats on here are just too much—i've already listened to it like 5 times trying to figure out how he did certain things. definitely the second great hip-hop album/tape to come out this year (post-Piñata).

He's already impressed me production wise with Raw Money Raps. That's a very important album to me, whenever I think about "newer" and "younger" people just straight up making cohesive sample collage projects.

Will peep

really though, am i the only person who's hip to the magnitude of this mixtape???
i figured if anybody had the same enthusiasm i have, it'd be the STMB fam...but i guess not. maybe i need to word it clearer:

the few tracks i listened to on the warp website were really very very good,
going on first impressions, I quite like Oliver the 2nd.
when i've got a free moment i'll check the full mixtape.

btw how is this a mixtape and not an album?
or are the two things interchangeable these days?
if it's not actually on tape, why call it a mixtape?
didn't a mixtape used to be a mix of different songs by different artists mixed by a dj on to a tape?
I'm sure I'm just being picky...

I still bump Bad Jokes on the regular. Seventy 8 is one of the illest tracks of the last ten years.

for me personally, Oatmeal Face > Seventy 8...but they're both crazy, i think i wrote something to that beat actually.

but did you check out the newest Jonwayne production on this?  that "Makin' Shit" track is probably the best beat i've heard all year...and i'm 99% sure i own that record he used.

Why is he so damn good you guys. I'm obsessing over the quick little vocal sample on "Witch Hazel" when he says "Casper in tha blunt" and a couple other spots.

i had no idea that Lord Raja produced "Father's Day"... for me, that's the standout track on here, that beat is amazing.

like, my favorite beat this year so far.

^ as for that DatPiff link, the only track i didn't already have was that Knxwledge one at the very end-- it must be a bonus track, cause it doesn't really conclude the tape in the same way that "Chocolate City" does.

I think its probably to do with sample clearance.

mixtape = unofficial release and therefore no label and no clearance hassle
