so, he did a tribute to dilla, what's the problem?

The tasteless way he's going about it. With the terrible immitation of the Donuts cover, etc.

i have no problem with that cover its just cheesy as fuck and embarassing for him, nowdays everyone is dillas number one fan and he is their biggest influence yadda yadda the whole thing reeks of bandwagon jumping but fuck em i dont care what they say/do leave em to it i say, they are only putting 'dedicated to dilla' to use his name by association to help sell their shitty product,i like him but was never a major fan *shock horror*

from the wildchild interview

What is your take on the legions of hipsters with their J Dilla Changed My Life t´s on? Because there are thousands of people who had not heard of him untill he died and now they act as his since-day-one fans?

I know, man. It is sad but then again it does open their eyes to what they missed out on all these years. I just hope they are really sincere when wearing them.

i dont just think its hipsters that wear them t-shirts

why tasteless? it's says clearly ' dedicated to j dilla'.

he just shows his love for dilla and created a visual way to show it.

i don't see that he states 'he's dilla' by posing like that on the picture

you all take this dilla wave to serious imho.

yeah, i guess at least half the board didn't know who dilla was before he passed away, or shortly before that.

and most of them have this shirt to show how much they love his music.

this bagels guy, put out a tribute to dilla and doesn't have this shirt on.......

i guess i go with the second...........

exactly!

i mean if i wanted to put an album of instrumental beats together mainly using soul samples and then put 'dedicated to dilla' it wouldnt be hard, wouldnt mean it was good either

Nah, this is manipulative. it's riding the wave of someone elses legacy and it's bullshit. I'm not a huge Dilla fan. I respect thefuck out of him and I love his work, but I wasn't a huge follower before his death and I don't pretend to be.

However, you don't have to be a fan to see what this little fucker is doing; whether he is willing to admit it or not.

If someone asked me if dilla changed my life i would have to say no. my life is the same now as it was before. i love the mans music and albums he produced but never knew him personally. nowadays everyone and their grandmas life got changed by dilla and i dont buy it.

yea, this is corney. there's a difference between admiring someone's work and dick riding. t-shirts and podcast tributes are one thing, but when you start biting album covers, now you're stepping on the man's toes. either way, from most peoples perspectives, it's gonna look like :

1)biting

2)dick riding-HARD!

3)taking advantage of dilla death/fan's to push his own product.

and another thing: if you're gonna do all this shit and dedicate the LP to dilla; annnnd have the nerve to call it-BAGELS, then this album better be d'shit-otherwise he fucked his music career up for a minute.

All this shit made me go and smoke a cigarette. I can't really back anybody on this subject. And I definitely can't even claim to be Dilla's number one fan. It was only a good month before he died that I even found out about the man. The only person that can really claim that title is Ms. Yancey. The one who would massage the pain from his hands while he lay in a hospital bed creating the real Donuts. It's topics like these that people can blow out of proportion and misinterpret motives over and whatnot. Since Dilla passed, it seems like there has been more controversy versus celebration over the legacy he left behind. Whether or not Dilla truly changed someone's life is merely their opinion. I feel that Dilla changed my life. But not in a religious way or anything of that nature. Since I started listening to Dilla, I never turn on my radio. That's all. This is the reason I have always been hesitate on purchasing a t-shirt with Dilla's name on it. Too much "controversy" behind it. But the way I see it, just playing Jay's music around people and getting them even slightly interested in him has done enough to help expand his legacy more than wearing a shirt or making a mixtape has. It's all in your head.

Pretty soon the "I'm more hip hop than you" argument will be "I'm more Dilla than you" argument

GET "BAGELS" NOW BEFORE IT IS PULLED!!!!!!!!!!!!

(also available on iTUNES)
