      STMB   01/22/2017

Sorry for the outage. The board went down for repairs on January 5th, and we didn't expect to be out for a full 16 days.  STMB is using a default skin, as you can see, and that will probably be the case for a few weeks.  Meanwhile, the board is working better than it ever has before.

STBB 381

Thank you for your votes.

I really like how the last few battles have revolved around one long sample stream so let's keep that going. This week we'll keep it simple, while I actively fight the urge to give you some kind of conceptual "make your beat using carrots for hands" kind of rule.

1) Time Limit: 2 minutes

2) Outside everything (drums/synth/bass/vox/samples): allowed

3) Use any of the samples provided:

Samples as one file

Individual samples cut and zipped

3b) AND! Download and use at least one sample from the sincerely terrifying Conet Project

4) Dedicate your beat to someone or something that you miss, then actually insert them (or a reference to them) in your track somewhere: the track art, the title, use their voice/music, spell out their name with a speak and say, anything that's meaningful.

Thanks again ~ the talent on this board is staggering and I hope to learn all your secrets.

BMC

The times yall have voted me in I've won by only a vote or two ~ you best be listening to J Vibes, MNSTRMKK, and Zhu because they're really good.

6) Two segments from Igorrr - "Tendon" spliced together (mp3) (also check out the bit from 3:40 to the end.. holy hell)

Congrats and nice samples BMC!

I will try to get something together this week, I couldn't quite get around to switching that tempo or actually incorporating any of the samples last week. Have all these artists passed or am I just making a large assumption? It was the Amy sample that gave me this idea, I actually couldn't name the other artists.

Welllllll... let's see. Amy Winehouse is gone... that dolphin is probably fuckin dead. Everyone else is around though I think - the members of Fever Ray, Igorrr is alive and twitching, Leon Russell (but he's not well). PROBABLY that whale is around.

It's wasn't a bad assumption. There's a slight link - Amy's gone, Leon's sentiment about transcending space and time is relevant, I actually think that Power Strike track is wistful sounding... eh I guess there's not really a connection. They're just some sounds I love.

Love the idea about the meaningful reference, gunna pull on my heart strings with this one huh?

Yessir! We're all gonna have a good cry.

It does say someone or someTHING you miss, so my track's just going to be the jingle for crystal pepsi with me sobbing in the background for 120 seconds.

so i really loved the show Moral Orel

it unfortunately got cancel and had a few episodes even cut from the end of the series

but my favorite character was no doubt the dad, Clay

ive been in an ambient mood lately so excuse me if its not exactly a "battle beat"

..whatever that means

used the Sesame Street samples for percussion and background noises

parts of the percussion also comes from the Igorrr sample

the "d3 30 8 note rising scale irdial" for background instrumentation

the rest is random samples and self-recorded percussion

(and if you didnt guess, the vocal cut is indeed Clay Puppington from an episode of Moral Orel, cant remember which episode, although i know its in the 3rd season)

anyways, even if you dont like the beat you should watch the show

its funny as fuck, and written well

(not a bad soundtrack either)

thanks yall

peace!

Congratulations BMC

It's always cool when you win because you're always good for a crazy, interesting rule or two.

And these samples are awesome.

but having said that, not sure if I'll get a chance to make a beat this week. Good luck everyone!

Congrats Breakmaster!!!! Well deserved!

Your rules are always awesome!

My good friend Conner transferred to a school in West Virginia. Miss the dood! Found this little clip of him trying to figure out how we should start a beat, (we were trying to make a mix with Anchorman's Afternoon Delight song lol)

I hope you guys like it!

Best wishes!
