      STMB   01/22/2017

Sorry for the outage. The board went down for repairs on January 5th, and we didn't expect to be out for a full 16 days.  STMB is using a default skin, as you can see, and that will probably be the case for a few weeks.  Meanwhile, the board is working better than it ever has before.

Who's the father(s) to your style?

I think the evolution of my current style comes from

Wanting to sound like Alchemist, Havoc, Dj Premier, The Neptunes,

To wanting to sound like Just Blaze, the Heatmakers and Kanye West

To wanting to sound like 9th Wonder and Khrysis

To wanting to sound like J Dilla

To now being influenced by all of the previous and a lot of the newer cats like Mndsgn, Ackryte, Knxwledge, Samiyam, Mr.Dibiase, Ohbliv, Jamaal

Lol

2pac, Biggie and Onxy made me want to hear more hip-hop.

Q-tip, Guru and jehst made me want to rap.

El-p, DOOM and Madlib made me want to make beats.

Dilla made me want to keep going.

I went through stages.

At first it was Timbaland and Pharrell.

Then Ryan Leslie, Scott Storch and Dallas Austin.

Now, It's strictly Kanye, Madlib, Dilla, DOOM and Alchemist. :D

For me it was originally Atari Teenage Riot-- I thought I can yell over the same exact break for 60 minutes too...

After that it was all the usual suspects...Dilla, Madlib, DOOM etc. etc.

I hardly ever come across anyone else thats into Atari Teenage Riot. One of the illest concerts I've been to was ATR, The Roots, and RATM. I was like wtf?! buggn out on how 3 bands I like would even know about each other, let alone be on a tour together.

Every crook at flea markets that sold me junky gear.

Warped, cracked, cigarette-burnt, bug-ridden pieces of vinyl.

The slew of crappy music that drives me to make music I want to hear.

Stoupe the Enemy of Mankind is definitely #1, other influences are

DOOM, Madlib, Jay Dee, Pete Rock, RZA, Delic (illest Dutch producer to ever live), Roni Size,

Speaking strictly beats, Dilla, Blockhead (I listened to Aesop Rock's "Labor Days" a loooot). The old weightless crew in Columbus, Illogic and Blueprint. Flying Lotus is continually inspiring me because every time he puts out something new it's completely different and crazy.

For drum selection, drum patterns & drum mixing I like to study Pete Rock, Damu The Fudgemunk, Primo, Grap Luva and Lord Finesse.

For sample selection/crate digging, chopping techniques, weird time signatures and SP-303 lessons, I like to study Madlib, Dilla & DOOM's production.

Madlib is definitely the artist I studied and keep studying the most (it's a never ending task considering the amount of material).

I used to be into reggae & dub a lot, back then I loved the productions of Lee Scratch Perry, King Tubby, Jah Shaka, Prince Jammy...

GG Allin used to shove bananas up his ass on stage and shit them out on his fans during his infamous shows...

he is, without a doubt, the father to my style.
