Madlib: Madvillain Sequel Prob Won't Happen!

36 posts in this topic

Recent Madlib Interview with Rolling Stone:

http://www.rollingst...simoto-20130617

"Will the Madvillain sequel ever see the light of day?

I handed all the beats to Doom years ago, but ever since he's been in Europe, he's been hard to get a hold of. I feel it probably won't happen, but you never know. I can't sit and wait on that. I did my part."

What the actual Fuck???? DOOM has taken trolling to new levels!!!! So much for "Madlib just has to finish up putting his finishing touches on it". I will lose respect for Daniel Dumile (yes the actual real man behind the mask) if this turns out to be true.

Next thing Swift & Changeable will be getting cancelled. We go through nearly 10 years of getting told "It's nearly done" only to get a passing comment like the one above. No disrespect to Madlib as he seems on the level and most likely did, in fact, play his part. DOOM needs to come out with some news, on this as it's the first time the album has been commented on in the negative by one of the duo.

Did you honestly think they were going to release another one? That project was lightning in a bottle and at this point it'd be too forced for a follow up. It'd be like Episode I, II & III.

DOOM owes none of us a god damn thing. Get your panties untwisted.

Nobody owes anyone anything....But it's a different matter when an artist knows their fans are keen for a project to be released, but instead of being up front, they lie about it. "Oh it's 95% done" blah blah.

By the by...I am allowed to be annoyed if I so choose. I like uncomfortable underwear. <_<

Wish they'd at least put out a small EP or 7" or something with the tracks that were already put out there (think 3-4 of them?)

some magic can only happen once

let it go already

and btw that itw held something else to cheer about

You recently started your own label, Madlib Invazion. Do you see that as mainly a place to release your music, or will you be releasing music from other artists as well?

Both. I'm going to release records from Kan Kick. A couple of singing artists. That's all I've found so far. I want to work with Stones Throw and also do my own thing. Stones Throw already has a lot of artists, so it makes sense to be able to release my other stuff on the side.

Oh and this is also worth copy/pasting, right?:

Are you still planning to release another Quasimoto album of all new material?

Yes, but I still haven't finished. It takes time. It has to be on a different level. The shrooms were the stuff that made me do Quasimoto in the first place. Hopefully, I get back on that level where I can finish it.

Not that it's THAT promising, but at least it's "confirmation" from the man himself, for whatever that's worth.

IDEA for a campaign to get Q3: The Fans send 1/8ths of shrooms in ziplock to ST address C/O MADLIB. Thousands of baggies from all over the country, the world, in show of our solidarity. and as fuel of course.

LOL SADVILLAIN, at this point i wood love to hear all these half collabed "unfinished" albums in one album

20 percent changeable 30 percent mv2 20 percent who knows, .ETC. and the rest everything else.

all that alternative MIXES and unreleased material wood makeone hell of a "offical release"

To me all this means is that, wait like 3-4 years and I'll update you on the progress.

I'm not certain but pretty sure he played a new madvillan track at the movie premiere party. It was a long DOOM verse I had never heard before over a beat I never heard before. Then he played it again, and again. Then he played the 911 call from when that lady got her face ripped off by the monkey, then he played the song again before they finally pulled the plug.

It was superdope!

I'm just psyched on The Lord Quas that just came out. Even though its not technically "new material"

Sounds like Travis 911

that song's been out for years, but it's not easy to come by

Naw. That might be a case for like a third of the cats but I think a lot of people are going in expecting him to dawn a Quas suit and perform all the Lootpack/Quas/Jaylib 'hits'. I've seen him do that a couple times, sans the Quas suit, and the crowd(s) went BALISTIC! I've told The Madlib personally that I consider myself a 'The Madlib Deadhead' in the sense that I try to get to any performance I can even if it means traveling cross country. I've seen plenty of crowds leave halfway through his sets though and even more stand and stare at the stage bored out of their minds. Its whatever though. If any of you guys ever get an opportunity to see The Madlib live do not hesitate to get tickets and bring all your friends. Some of them may think you're pretty weird afterwards though.

Meh. Right now I'm more hyped for the Mos Def Madlib album than MV2.

Doom's head is clearly not in the game.

isn't he a father? i probably would want a long ass break too after the 10+ years of unrivaled proclivity...

DOOM's my favorite rapper, but he really has put a lot into the game at this point already. i would just consider him "semi-retired" at this point and be pleasantly surprised when he does decide to release some new stuff.

He sounded unsure in the interview, but there can't be that many more songs to complete. Right? Who knows
