      STMB   01/22/2017

Sorry for the outage. The board went down for repairs on January 5th, and we didn't expect to be out for a full 16 days.  STMB is using a default skin, as you can see, and that will probably be the case for a few weeks.  Meanwhile, the board is working better than it ever has before.

LastSonOf - really digging the wibe.

miRSs - Great anthem/ish tune, huge work

Sam Cadet - amazing bassline!

BUT my vote goes to:

Butta Slick

Fits so perfectly with aesop rock`s flow, and digging the details!

Creativity is just boiling over as always, hats off to all you fine gentlemen!

Argh. Annoying to listen through the group with all these submissions that aren't for the battle. Is there something that can be done? I'll be back with my vote in a bit.

Not so crazy about lots of this week's entries... but that's kinda dope. If I was on the same page as everyone else, I wouldn't have anything original to contribute, and it wouldn't make me stretch out and listen the way I have been. I can't believe anyone would listen through this whole list, so big thanks to everyone who made it down to my wavy little remix, stuffed in there about 3 days ago. LEt's keep this thing going y'all!

Vavoom LaHaye- reminds me of El P's stuff for Killer Mike. Coming from me, that is a high compliment.

Head Jamz - Really well sequenced, could be the winner if the mix was dialed in all the way.

Patent - tight and more my style than many of the other super avant-garde crunchy joints. I like that style, but it's less forgiving.

ErkDoesIt - Great mix og a cool, organic drum pattern with simple good taste, a nice mix and cool lil bits of sample drops.

Ogi Feel the Beat - 's might be the best even though it's over the time-limit. Coulda done without the last bit. Still super dope.

Brotha B - did what I tried to do, really make a whole, cohesive song. And he did a damn fine job of it. Leaving the listener wanting more rather than going over time is wicked classy too.

Kazabazua - on that unique, smooth, old-school and STRAIGHT UP groove.

Butta Slick - sick, big and crunchy.

winner, to me, is.....

MiRSs - this is enormous. Just straight murder.

To clarify my comment about not listening to the whole list: I did, and apparently lots or all of you did too.

I guess what I should have said is this:

It blows my mind that so many people listen through all of these beats off one sample. That's pretty dope.

Not trying to bring negative energy here.

I didn't want to go into detail here about what I thought about the mix, just that I thought it needed a little more work. Not that it's bad at all, it's just that the winning track is usually outstanding. Really big and/or really well mixed.

In this particular instance - and this is a tough thing to deal with - I feel like the acapella doesn't totally sit with the rest of the beat. Maybe a touch of small-room reverb on everything to tie it all together. It actually sounds pretty nice, but just doesn't have the big punch and BOOM to put it over the top. But hey, this is bigger and more lush than my track by heaps.

First battle for what seems like years. Been out of the country for a bit but it feels good to be back listening to dope ass beats by dope ass beatmakers. As for my vote:

LastSonOf Very simple but extremely well put together.
