      STMB   01/22/2017

Sorry for the outage. The board went down for repairs on January 5th, and we didn't expect to be out for a full 16 days.  STMB is using a default skin, as you can see, and that will probably be the case for a few weeks.  Meanwhile, the board is working better than it ever has before.

THE J DILLA RECORD COLLECTION SALE

J-DILLA.COM JANUARY 22, 2013

Years ago J Dilla moved a large collection of records, personal test presses and audio master tapes into a storage until after his Detroit basement studio flooded. Shortly thereafter he moved to Los Angeles.

The storage unit was left by Dilla and taken care of by his mother, Maureen “Ma Dukes” Yancey, but attention and priorities soon shifted: Dilla became seriously ill and hospitalized, and with his mother at his side in Los Angeles during a planned two-week visited that turned into years, the unit was lost.

In Spring of 2012, the entire collection was finally recovered. The back payments and fees were paid – Ma Dukes was reunited with the contents she last saw just before leaving to L.A. to take care of Dilla.

Maureen Yancey is now selling a portion of the record collection in the first of a series of weekly sales taking place on eBay.

EBAY.COM DILLA RECORD COLLECTION

Buyers receive an LP from the collection of J Dilla, with a signed, numbered certificate from Maureen Yancey stating that the record is from this personal collection.

The certificates are numbered with the plan of an online registry for Dilla fans to list their Dilla Collection LP. Buyers are welcomes to include the artist, title, and whether any tracks on the LP are known to have been sampled by Dilla. This registry is dependent on the sales of the limited amount of the collection and response from the fans.

Copped one. It may be a $30 Herb Alber joint, but I'm down with helping out Ma Dukes.

so wait, you don't get to choose what album you get?? you just do a BIN for 30 bucks and you get a random record?? i wonder if there is anybody with some knowledge there filtering out the raers, or if some lucky dude is gonna end up with like a stark reality or something

Bobby Hutcherson - "Ambos Mundos"

Haven't listend to it yet. Pretty geeked to listen to it.

On another note, somewhat related, this month I flipped "Fall In Love" for my "Revisionist History" track.

This is pretty cool. Great way to raise money for the foundation.

Any idea if/when the next one will be?

They do them in batches of 100 I think. This is the Dilla Estate seller's page. They currently don't have anything posted. I say, stay tuned.

I got Joe Pass: Virtuoso LP 1974

Dilla sampled Joe pass for Q-Tip once so I wonder if he used this record for something else...

After a few more google searches I figured out pete Rock sampled this record so I know dilla must have used it to study. Also, there's a Car City Records sticker on my record. GEEKED!!!

They are already flipping these on ebay for over a $100. The highest one I saw went for $280. Something ain't right about that.

And it got me thinking, since the record comes in an open plastic sleeve with nothing on the certificate verifying which record it is, what's to stop people from swapping out that record with say Mountain Live or Eddie Kendricks People....Hold On and being like "this is the record Dilla used to make ****** "

thats the first thing I thought of when I got mine. Maybe Ma Dukes shoulda signed each record.
