      STMB   01/22/2017

Sorry for the outage. The board went down for repairs on January 5th, and we didn't expect to be out for a full 16 days.  STMB is using a default skin, as you can see, and that will probably be the case for a few weeks.  Meanwhile, the board is working better than it ever has before.

Our vinyl Weighs A Ton (This Is Stones Throw Records) is a feature-length documentary about avant-garde Los Angeles-based record label Stones Throw Records. Under the direction of founder and world-renowned DJ Peanut Butter Wolf, Stones Throw has consistently released critically acclaimed, left-of-center albums since its founding in 1996.

Drawing on live concert footage, never-before-seen archival material, inner-circle home video and photographs and in-depth interviews with the folks who put Stones Throw on the map, OUR VINYL WEIGHS A TON will delve deeper into the label’s enigmatic artists, history, culture and global following.

This looks good.. my only worry is the preview looks like it incorporates lots of old interviews... I hope most of the stuff is new... anyway it is hard to tell from a trailer.

They are doing a kickstarter fundraiser so that some more interviews can take place.

What about Madlib's transition from "the label" to "Madlib Invasion" around the timing of Egon leaving the label?

Madlib vs Lootpack? Didn't hear about that one...

I thought madlib "leaving" stones throw was more doing what's best for him as opposed to an actual beef with the label. I thought he said madlib invasion was created to release more unheard music & sign new talent. However this IS madlib and the new talent could be more members of YNQ or DJ Rels cousin. Only time will tell.

OMG! This is going to be epic!!

It's always sad to hear about Charizma because judging from his skill level he could have transitioned into a star or at least an "underground king" later in the 90's with the right folks.

I want to see some Madlib music sessions or maybe some footage of him and Dilla kicking it while making some music.

I love documentaries like this.

I doubt it's gonna be epic. Maybe one quick scene with madlib and the rest is stuff we've already seen/know. This seems like another doc for those who don't know much about the label.Hope I'm wrong!

I don't think you're wrong at all.

Regarding Madlib vs LP, I'm referring to Lib leaving the group to pursue YNQ while their was kind of some buzz off the Antidote record which was never followed up with anything as a group. I'm not saying it was a bad move, especially if you look at the trajectory of each member's career, nor that I've ever heard of any beef going down between them.

ehm isn't madlib invazion just his own label on stones throw records? i don't really know how the music biz works but i guess it's just his own little label and that stones throw does all all the distribution and stuff..

No need to talk about what we were never involved in, minus being a FAN/SUPPORTER of

1 OF THE GREATEST "UNDERGROUND" LABELS OF ALL TIME...

Spare a dollar or more if you can and help get this made.

I have.

Shout to all STMB!

romes explained this in his last interview, i posted it on the boards

he basically said that they tried to get together and do it but Otis was creativley in another place (ynq etc)!

so it didnt flow creativley

so they left him alone like real friends would and let him do what he did but he promised another LP album

so?

who knows!

Kickstarter project seems to be going slow, looks like this might be in danger of not getting funded...

That's probably why ST tweeted that Lib would be composing new tracks for the film.

Edit: Just found this on the site. I will say though, that by trying to shamelessly promote Earl Sweatshirt along with the doc pretty much convinced me to not donate.

Hey stonesthrow! Why don't you guys just finance that shit yourselves?

I would imagine they would just throw on whatever money is leftover themselves. Even if it stalled around 25k and they just had to throw on the extra 5k, they would still be coming out on top.

Not so sure about this tactic. Isn't this supposed to be a third party's project telling ST's story. If ST puts up the $ it just becomes ST telling their story, again.

I don't mind earl so much as long as he finds his own style separate from 90's Eminem...Tyler on the other hand is the most frustrating figure of the group.

I'd donate if this were a Madlib doc showing his progress from the mid nineties till now. It'd never happen ,but it'd be cool to see a doc based on his studio practices, jam sessions and general weird shit so we could have a deeper understanding of his music straight from the horses mouth.
