      STMB   01/22/2017

Sorry for the outage. The board went down for repairs on January 5th, and we didn't expect to be out for a full 16 days.  STMB is using a default skin, as you can see, and that will probably be the case for a few weeks.  Meanwhile, the board is working better than it ever has before.

Mr. Fantastik: Greatest Mystery In Hip Hop?

73 posts in this topic

sooo many good nardwuar interviews. DOOM would be the ultimate though, for sure. i can never decide if seeing a nardwuar interview beforehand should be a prerequisite for participating in one. he definitely polarizes the people who are actually down to earth vs the people who are kind of impatient/self-conscious pricks.

right on, i mean all he's ever really trying to do in any interview is show that he has done some intense research, i guess some artists would just rather talk about what projects they are working on and their favourite colour

It might mean nothing, but the copies of Special Herbs Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 I've got on my comp have all these additional artist names for the people he worked with on the beats, ie. "Shallots - DJ Subroc/MF Doom", or "Monosodium Glutamate - DJ Cucumber Slice/MF Doom", and other cats like DJ Pocket, Big Jim, etc... Nettle Leaves (the beat for Who You Think I Am?) is credited to MF Doom/Mr. Fantastic (with a c). the MC's on Who You Think I Am are King Ceasar, Megalon, Rodan, Kamackeris, and Kong. Out of all those dudes the only one who sounds even vaguely like Mr. Fantastik (to me) is Rodan. But I still don't really buy him as Mr. Fantastik.

And that's my annual piece of Mr. Fantastik detective work.

Thinking about it, did DOOM not already say that Fantastik was just some guy he paid to appear on the King Geedorah LP? I think this was the same interview that he was asked if he still kept in touch with Onyx and Earthquake from the KMD days. He replied that he didn't know what these dudes were doing as, again, they were just hired to spit on a couple of tracks and weren't actually down with the CM crew to begin with.

I reckon Anti-Matter and Rap Snitch Knishes were recorded during the same session, from which one track was used on Take Me To Your Leader & the other on MM..FOOD & after this the working relationship was finished.

Although, I always wondered if, as DOOM moved to Atlanta, if he or his wife had fam there and this dude was just a family member or a friend that DOOM thought could spit so wrote his rhyme and he just had to perform it. Would explain why the dude isn't a rapper as such and we haven't heard from him since.

It's sad, dude probably doesn't even realize how many people are still clamoring for an album from him.

Radric Davis (born February 12, 1980) better known by his stage name Mr. Fantastik, is an American rapper. He debuted in 2005 with Trap House, followed by Hard to Kill in 2006, Trap-A-Thon, and Back to the Trap House in 2007. In 2009, his second studio album The State vs. Radric Davis was released. The Appeal: Georgia's Most Wanted was released in 2010, and is his highest charting album so far. Mr. Fantastik has released many other mixtapes and independent albums as well.

While serving a six-month jail term for assault in late 2005, Davis was charged with murder, though the charges were later dropped due to a lack of evidence. In 2009, he served a year-long county jail sentence for violating probation for his 2005 aggravated assault conviction.
