      STMB   01/22/2017

Sorry for the outage. The board went down for repairs on January 5th, and we didn't expect to be out for a full 16 days.  STMB is using a default skin, as you can see, and that will probably be the case for a few weeks.  Meanwhile, the board is working better than it ever has before.

its gonna be funny when people from this generation, the lady gaga.. pop generation, are old talking about music from their "good ol days." thier grandchildren are no longer gonna listen to autotune, but actual robots.

why do people get so mad at sampling?? honestly, if you love the "good old days" wouldnt it be refreshing to hear the songs you loved, but with heavier bass and dirtier drums? after all this is hip hop. if its not your style i could understand, by all means continue to listen to O.G.s, but why would you insult other peoples taste in music, especially in a forum of thier music, and say that you "fuck them up by sampling"?

if anything i have expanded my music knowledge thanks to cats like madlib, primo, pete rock, dilla, etc. hip hop has changed my life (cheesy) by having me crate dig and youtube dig(lame, but yes ladies and gents its 2010 and if the technology is there i will use it) which gives exposure to the "good ol days."

i hope my post didnt seem like a rant.

soooo true for me.

I'm 16,

there's no way I would have ever heard the music before my time had I not gotten into hip hop.

So it's called Black Soul, but it's a mix of disco music? Doesn't make a whole lot of sense. I'm pretty disappointed...not really a fan of disco.

madlib has always considered himself a dj first, and a producer second...so in essence, his beats are more of a presentation of the records he digs for and listens to than anything else...madlib and his fans never give off the impression that his music is 100% original, and that he is the greatest musician that ever lived...he is definitely an extremely creative mothafucker, and to an extent, a very good musician with regards to his YNQ projects...but i believe hiphop (real hiphop) can't even be considered a genre, its a presentation...you can take opera records and conduct a cohesive mix and incorporate scratches and blends, and its hiphop!....just some of my thoughts...i hope that didn't sound like a rant either haha

Episode 10 in the Medicine Show series finds Madlib fashioning a mix of 60s and 70s soul and funk unlike any you've ever heard before. Madlib has travelled across so many different terrains with his Medicine Show collection, and this is the sweetest installment yet. Throughout his extensive output, Madlib has always flexed a unique power to restore and renew value in obscure sounds, and with this particular project that special skill has never been more evident. ‘Medicine Show # 10’ seeks inspiration in the likes of Don Blackman, ZZ Hill or The Sylvers, and will blow seekers away with the original work that stems from it. Simply put, ‘Black Soul’ digs beyond deep. These crates aren’t dusty, they’re postively buried … below the surface … in the sub-soil.

lol isn't it true ?

I don't see any outlandish statement there

yasharwan where u got that description ?

so it's not a disco mix. good

I don't see how disco is diverse enough to fill up a Madlib mix

Well I mean I suppose it's true in a general sense in that artists who use samples have the ability to turn listeners on to the originals, but I really don't think that Madlib has any particularly ability do it, though it does help that he has a large and solid fan base.

Haha didn't notice that.

And Unique - well, not always, and I don't really think that's relevant. Uniqueness doesn't mean a lot to someone not who knows nothing.

Black Soul is in the store. looks like we're going to get #9 at some point after #10. I'm glad that they aren't letting #9's lateness interfere with the rest of the series. hopefully we still get it this year so i can listen to all 12 in a row once they're all out.
