      STMB   01/22/2017

Sorry for the outage. The board went down for repairs on January 5th, and we didn't expect to be out for a full 16 days.  STMB is using a default skin, as you can see, and that will probably be the case for a few weeks.  Meanwhile, the board is working better than it ever has before.

Well, well...

After a little search, seems to me nobody noticed this:

Sly & The Revolutionaries with Jah Thomas - Black Ash Dub [Trojan, 1980].

I'm at work so can't take the time to point out the samples used on mms4, but the whole album is a killer no filler, sadly not available anymore...

"Pass me the Rizla, pass me the herb"...

It took me a while to put this together, but the thought of a complete tracklist has haunted me since this came out last year. Please help me out and contribute what you can. Copy and paste the list and put your additions in red. CONQUER! CONQUER!

*I didn't count the little interludes in between tracks as part of the list.

wow i must've slept on this topic for too long! great job DJ Projexion, special thanks for figuring out the Norris Reid track and Jah Bull one — what a great gift for today! i did my own little research and found a lot of tracks from the mix few months ago. i have those artists in my list but nobody seem to mention them here:

Mikey Dread - Walk Rastafari Way (1979)

Prince Jazzbo - 12 Tribe Posse (197x)

Ranking Dread - Jean Green (1981)

Tenor Saw - Dancehall Part Two (198x)

Sound Dimension - Drum Song (196x)

Prince Jammy - 256K Ram (1986) (apparently you put that as "Nitty Gritty - Run Down The World Dub")

can anyone confirm if these are in the mix?

i've got some more names in my list, mostly for short samples & voice-overs that i recognized but that's not the primary interest. i'm willing to make a proper .cue file for the mix whenever we come up with more or less complete tracklist. i would also like to thank madlib and ST for letting us do the math aka educate ourselves in music ;)

DJ Projexion, Ranking Dread - Jean Green drops at 1:13:29

[if you're checking out the track on YouTube, the only "Jean Green" track you can find there is from user stormsky30 and he/she mistakenly named it "Captain Sinbad - Man Live It". here's the wrong link that shows up as Jean Green + correct link]

now, i'm really itching to find out what comes right after Dennis Alcapone - Cry Tough, with "badness a madness" line (but honestly, i can't hear any similarity to Kojak's voice).

and that "early reggae" heat just blows my mind, the one that drops after Sister Nancy - Dance Pon Di Corner...

hopefully we can ID all these gems soon!

thanks again to all who contributed their time and musical knowledge:

Shea Butta, Copicat, marvinhagler, ynqhead and special thanks to DJ Projexion for compiling the list!

investing another couple of hours to internet digging, i've found two one more track that is currently missing in the list:

Prince Jazzbo - Jamaican Collie (

) drops at 59:40

Errol Dunkley - Where Must I Go (

) drops at 10:50 edit: obviously it's U Roy - Merry Go Round

and finally, i dug out the into dub part:

first, Madlib drops short sample of Joe Gibbs - Majestic Dub (youtube) and after yet unidentified tune (certainly not from the same album) he plays Joe Gibbs - Edward The Eight (

). both tracks come from 1979 Gibb's "Majestic Dub" LP.

we're getting closer!

EDIT: seems that nobody mentioned this gem: Jah Stitch - Set Up Your Self Dreadlocks (last.fm) which drops at 57:46 - should fit into 37. {DJ track} :)

i noticed a couple of dub tracks that conclude the mix:

edit: Mikey Dread - Money Dread (

) intro part used in the mix

Mikey Dread - The Jumping Master (

) intro part

Mikey Dread - Israel (12 Tribe) Stylee (youtube) sample of dub version

both all tracks taken from either his 1980 LP "World War III" or 1981 "Beyond World War III"

edit 2: i actually missed these two when i first replied after i saw DJ Projexion's list:

#14 would be Jah Mikes - Can't Take The Running (1981)

and #49 Dr. Alimantado - Unitone Skank (1978)

edit 3: boom! #19 happens to be Hugh Madoo - Gone Me Gone

it took me a couple of days to find out one of my most favorite features in this mix, but i finally finished my "investigation"!

the fast and somewhat heavy track that drops after Dennis Alcapone - Cry Tough with a nice touch of ethnic (african?) drums and the incredible "badness a madness" hook is (drum-roll):

Jah Thomas - Bad Man Entry (1979)

this one goes to #36. i can't help but post the video directly here, because it's bangin'!

and another find from the last weekend is

Derrick Harriott - Red Is Dread (1974) (

)

which happens to be the dub version of "People Make The World Go Round" and should occupy #15 in our list.

now even closer! :)

Well, I was inspired to do some investigating of my own and came up with this....

which comes in right after 41. Prince Jazzbo - Take Your Time Prince Jazzbo

...and that Fresh Riddim track that follows it is driving me insane!

nice find good sir! must admit i'm not that good with dub, since it barely has any words that can lead you to the tune name or something to dig for :)

i think i won't be able to to sleep at night soon until we find out all the tracks hah!

by the way, i'm not so sure about that #41 Prince Jazzbo - Take Your Time Prince Jazzbo, i can't find it released with this title. there's Prince Jazzbo - Mek I Tell You which has the very same version but (surprise!) different lyrics. perhaps he did some live cover but i still haven't figured it out for myself. do you happen to have any "proof" for this track title?

EDIT: ok, he clearly chats "song's called Prince Jazzbo rocking" so i think this track must be from his 7" Wise Shepherd / Prince Jazzbo Rocking (1973/1974?). but i can't find any sound snippets of this exact track though... i found a low quality rip and it's that track, so

#41 Prince Jazzbo - Prince Jazzbo Rocking

and what "Fresh Riddim track" are you referencing to?

Fair enough. I had no "audio proof" for that track but I did find this source:

"Jazzbo made his self- producing debut with the 45 Skankubine, backed with Plum Plum, in 1974 on his label Count One Two, followed by Wise Sheppard/Take Your Time Prince Jazzbo on his second label, Brisco. Then he took the records and started walking, peddling them, like house wares, door to door in the ghetto."

Source: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=107809659268321

....judging by the way they spelled "Shepherd" it's no big surprise that they made a mistake with the titles.

And that Fresh Riddim track is the one that goes "Brush Yo Teeth, Brush Yo Teeth"

...

45. {Early reggae}??

just realized what are they actually singing, checked online root discographies and found one possible name - Skitta & Bonnie - Chubby, produced and released by the brilliant Prince Buster in the 60s. then some quick additional googling revealed an mp3 sample from some Switzerland-based record shop and it was f-ing it! :)

i'm still lazily looking for the remaining tracks

Great work on that Buster-joint. The only one who really bothers me now is

17. {Early reggae?}

The last thing I was doing was going through roots-archives checking out every tune I could find with a name who remotely resembled the lyrics in this. But I just had to give up... :(

Lord knows how I feel

All you need is some reassurance ??????

????????

All the foolish have been stopped?

I get alit, and I feel alright

Lords know how I feel

All the lyrics aren't audible to me, if someone with better hearing can elaborate on my missing lyrics the key to the track name might be uncovered along with it.

between 12. Half Pint - One Big Ghetto and 13. Jah Lion - Hay Fever there's Derrick Harriott - Ital Spliff from the same '74 album as #15. Derrick Harriott - Red Is Dread. not on youtube, but mp3 samples are easily found on the net (juno etc). it's quite lengthy to be excluded from the list i think
