      STMB   01/22/2017

      Sorry for the outage. The board went down for repairs on January 5th, and we didn't expect to be out for a full 16 days.  STMB is using a default skin, as you can see, and that will probably be the case for a few weeks.  Meanwhile, the board is working better than it ever has before.

Recommend me some trippy, dark jazz/fusion

18 posts in this topic

I'm working on a soundtrack for a short film project and I'm looking for some spacey, trippy, and dark jazz or jazz fusion music.

Some stuff that I'm already using is the intro to Billy Cobham's Stratus and the ending of Herbie Hancock's A Wandering Star.

I'm familiar enough with the music so I'm looking for specific album recommendations or better yet, tracks.

Any response is appreciated.

Try Demon Fuzz - Afreaka! Sort of jazz/funk/prog rock. Or Sun Ra Arkestra - Nuclear War, track n°2 Retrospect. But I don't know if that's exactly what you're looking for...

check out Mort Garson lp's - zodiac or lucifer one's are nice and sinister.

Galt MacDermot is also a master of the short funky OST tracks.

also, any conversation about jazz fusion should start with David Axelrod.

or save yourself some time and do a torrent search for dusty fingers breakz.

Sun Ra's "Heliocentric Worlds Volume 1" is very dark, and "Volume 2" is particularly good if you want dark trippy strings.

I'd also check out "Nem Um Talvev" from Miles Davis - Live Evil (the album in my pic) - not as "dark" but particularly atmospheric/eerie track,

and of course Bitches Brew being a classic example of dark/trippy fusion

there's muchos jazz funk/ fusion soundclips here >>>>> diggers digest

could be a good starting place.

:ohmy::blink: WOOOW!!!

Dude that Homosapiens - Saga album sounds insane!!

Dammit, now I have yet another impossible to find want to add to the list.

EDIT:

And this!!! "Viva Boma (IBC) 1976, Belgium

Original Belgian pressing of this classic fusion set produced by Marc Moulin. Every track is superb, and Moulin's trademark sound is present throughout. Beats everywhere, lovely rhodes, and amazing touches of femme vocals.

Incredible arrangements ! Soundclip soon."

Oh no! I shouldve never known about this site!

:ohmy::D WOOOW!!!

he definately has some amazing records (and the turnover seems quite good aswell) -- but his prices are quite out the realm of us mere mortals. I'm sure you can turn these things up for much less than that price - - just look in the country of origin, thats what i do! (ebay.fr etc...)

Bohren & Der Club Of Gore

Kinda a mix between jazz & ambient, don't get much darker than this.

Check out their album 'Sunset Mission' if ya like this kinda stuff.
