what is it with everybody digging kev brown - i just dont get it!!?? i've heard a bunch of stuff on myspace and his 'i do what i do' lp and it all sounds really, really boring. too clean, with a really dull 'choppy' style and shitty drum sounds. somebody poitn me in the direction of a good album - i must be missing something. doubt it though.

roddy rod and kankick are fucking great though, as is madlib. i dont feel oh no quite as much though. he's alright.

Kev Brown is too "run of the mill". Madlib is more inventive and not afraid to experiment. Oh No just tries too hard.... I'm not hatin' on him or anything, but he just has this, "My big brother is Madlib" complex. Maybe I'm wrong though...

nah MADLIB kills all of em cats

no doubt.

Kankick is the shit though, I really don't get why people don't pick more of his beats. "Acid Massive musical" was insane.
Kev Brown is dope but just too predictable to be up there with the best of them.
And FYI, That Oakwood Grain album by Roddy Rod is a snoozefest.

i like Oh No and i don't care who's "better," long as they all make good music.
but i do agree that Roddy Rod, Kev Brown, and KanKick are all very dope producers.

3 more producers that i feel deserve credit are Oddisee, Exile and Ge-ology.
all of them have been putting out great music for some time now, but still don't get the recognition they deserve.

and of course, Waajeed too. :D

I'm also shocked that KANKICK isn't signed to STONESTHROW yet........his beats make you break your neck!!

-kankick: 8.5 out 10 (I'm really feeling the instrumentals on "Arts of unknown"....all his instrumentals are classic though)
-Kev Brown is like 7.5 out 10: (He laced jazzy jeff on "The Magnificent")
-Madlib: 9 out 10 (All the Lord qaus ish, madvillian, ynq)
-Oh no: 8.0 out 10 ("disrupt" instrumentals' wildchild "secondary protocol" instrumentals
-Roddy Rod: I haven't heard this cats material....n/a

I've just been listening to instrumentals lately.....peace

you cant compare em tho, the styles are totally different. Madlib to me represents true creativity in what he does, while most producers (dope ones included) are trying to mimic a certain sound that they like, and madlib has created his own (or the style he is trying to mimic is Jazz, through hip hop, which is an ill idea and I can go on forever about this lol)

but yeah, cant compare so stop frontin

i'd highly recommend checking both Maspyke albums and his instrumental joint, Oakwood Grain.
there's some serious heat on all of those.
