Yah man.

I know he came off as a bit of a douche in the movie, but still, dude is so important musically. Arguably, he set off Primo, Madlib, RZA.... He was doing his thing before them.

I don't really care about him unless he's performing with phife and ali honestly. His solo stuff is weak

Yah, he kind of fell off. I think when he stopped smoking ganja, he product became less proper. And he is kind of a dweeb, I will grant you that, but the music of the first three Tribe albums, let alone a lot of other cool shit is what makes him the god send..

Think of it! Think of all the cats who could be deemed children of Tribe, Pharcyde, Souls Of Mischief, Cypress Hill, Beastie Boys (Ill Communication), Wu, Gang Starr, Madlib. All incorprated jazzy sampling, ambient noises textures etc.

Anyone not giving this dude props is iffy in my book.

Beyond that, tho, we shall see how this Last Zulu album is. I suspect it will be good.

Tip did not 'inspire' Preemo. They were contemporaries that had been doing thier own things long before either blew up. The Beasties released multiple albums before Tribe even made a name for themselves. I get the fact that those first three albums are timeless and that he is a legend but he didn't create this shit nor can you call any of those groups his children. Get off the man's dick.

Naw. Imma stay on it. He's dope. And was an influence. He never got the props cause he never credited himself. But, he was the sound of Tribe, which is pretty incredible.

Classic. Classic. Classic Example Of A Date Rape.

I never said he wasn't a classic producer. You need to step your reading comprehension up cash. I'm just saying you're crediting him for shit that never happened in reality.

Of course here is another influence he had, The Legendary Roots Crew. They of course helped shape D'Angelo, Badu, Common.... Dude is epic. Any haters, doubters etc, get over it.

Tough issue and one that marred a successful group. When younger I did study all things qtip. I was enamored with Jazz clubs and that open mic scene. Just all seemed so natural. I was never really hearing Phife though-Phife could write like nobody's business.

I started hearing more about the beef and started siding w Phife a bit. Phife was keeping it real, whilst battling his medical condition. I doubt he had time for bs and likely followed more of a street code than qtip-if that makes any sense. I can't elaborate it sufficiently to make You take notice; but You can see it's there.

Qtips eccentricities aside-meeting Phife made quite an impression on me when I was fortunate enough to meet him.

i'm willing to concede the legendary status of Q-Tip in the hip-hop community as a whole, but as a solo artist i feel like a lot of his output was "mehh"...the best tracks off the Renaissance weren't produced by him (excluding "We Fight/We Love"), and besides that the only other track i really dug was "Vibrant Thang"...

i mean, he's dope i guess, but i don't really care about him without being in the context of Phife and Ali as well.  i will admit though, those first three Tribe albums are among my all-time fav's.  "Electric Relaxation" ranks among my favorite songs i've ever heard, that shit never gets old.
