Rappcats has announced the release of a new J Dilla EP called, "Give Them What They Want." This is the latest in a series of EPs (Diamonds/Ice and Anthem/Trucks were released previously) leading up to the release of the full-length album, "The Diary." "Give Them What They Want" is expected to drop in Spring 2014.

Anyone have any additional information on this?

Yeah always good taste in music from the Boondocks folks. Like 3 MV songs featured in that Lets Nab Oprah episode

http://www.youtube....h?v=YG2Uok1pqpU

The promo for Season 3 was also pretty good

http://www.youtube....h?v=iBSM8pRd3LQ

Edit:

As far as the topic goes, I think I'm pretty much done with all these posthumous Dilla records/projects. Some have been ok, but like Madlib was pretty much saying they're milking the shit out of this stuff for the $$$

De La Soul have dropped the first track from a mixtape they'll be releasing of them over Dilla beats called Smell the D.A.I.S.Y. If anyone can do justice to Dilla it's De La. Surprised no one mentioned it earlier...

I look forward to it. What I'm afraid of is some kid next week, the next Joey Badass, rapping over a Dilla beat and calling it the new collab.

i dont know anything about this "Give them what they want" record, but if it's the next in the series after Anthem and Diamonds, it means it's more of the stuff he did himself, the shelved MCA album

Kids on Dilla beats can be hard to listen to. Even that Busta Dillagence mix I found to be tacky. Hard to begrudge De La for doing a free Dilla mix though. I wouldn't begrudge Stones Throw for putting out Pizza Man for sale, though I bet some would. These releases from Rappcats have been high quality in terms of both integrity and design. It's just crazy that they're putting out 4 "EPs" stretched over several years before putting out the MCA album. But in hindsight I guess that's what happened with (Cocaine) Piñata too... IS THIS THE NEW INVAZION FORMULA FOR MAJOR RELEASES?! it must be a money-maker, but oh man it's going to be frustrating...
The Madlib was going on again about his two fucking quasimoto albums that he's "going to release" in that recent Grantland interview, I wonder if we'll be experiencing 4 years of pre-release 12"s for both, I think Rappcats has a 15-year plan.

I love Rappcats to death but they seriously need to stop calling 12" singles EPs.

I'm looking forward to the MCA album finally getting released because I'm one of two people on the Internet who hasn't gone out of his way to download the bootleg floating around.

There's so much shit being released it's tough to keep up with it all.

The next big release is going to be a sp1200 style box set with 4 10" vinyls of unreleased beats from "Dillas SP1200 era"

I'll probably cop it just because I'm a fiend for the beats.

Been waiting on the You're Welcome album for forever it feels like. these Dilla joints are giving me more hope for You're Welcome than First Serve did... I really hope Prince Paul has some kind of presence on it.

Unreleased J Dilla material. Limited.
The Estate of James Yancey revived J Dilla’s PayJay Productions as a functioning imprint and announced its release of Dilla's long lost vocal album, The Diary. Thus far, two limited edition EPs - "Anthem" b/w “Trucks” and “Diamonds” b/w “Ice” – have seen release. “Give Them What They Want” is the last EP that will be released before The Diary is unleashed in full.

“Give Them What They Want” is a special treat – an unheard J Dilla-produced vocal track that has never before been released. It is paired on this release with the Super Dave West version, entitled “The Doe,” and a second West-produced track, “No One’s Home.”

“Give Them What They Want” was mixed by Dilla himself, and its component instrumental was mixed down to match Dilla’s vocal version by Dave Cooley, from Dilla’s original multi-track sessions.

The first press of this 12” features clear vinyl atop a Jeff Jank-altered photograph by James T. & Karla L. Murray from their lauded book Store Front – The Disappearing Face
of New York (Gingko Press) and an original label illustration by Denise Nestor. Subsequent runs will not have the clear vinyl or the fold-over plastic sleeve.

from rushhour.nl. J.Rocc played a snippet on the beginning of his Boiler Room set.

That limited edition SP1200 box set looks like it could be dope. I like how some of us anticipate these Dilla "Eps" even though the actual leak of the shelved MCA demo wasn't very good. It's a leak so it's not official and they're probably including songs and beats that are "unreleased" or "never before heard" but that project, as I heard it, wasn't very good.

What's the deal with these cover arts though? They suck!

i didn't hear it, i'll probably end up getting the ep's and the album at some point.
a big part of the reason for that is those sleeves - i think they're really nicely done.
i guess you either like the jeff jank aesthetic or you don't.
i happen to think he's always spot-on.
you know when you see something and think 'i wish i'd done that'
well, that's how i feel anyway...

Preorder 09.05.2014
The pre-order date ist the release date, told us by the distributor. There´s no guarantee for a delivery at that date as there can be delays at the manufacturer or the distributor, especially for vinyl pressings. As soon as we have it on stock at HHV.DE, we will proceed the order as soon as possible.

DO THEY MEAN MAY 9TH OR SEPT 5TH???????

lmao to be fair, the full res art looks WAY better than that little thumbnail from last month. I was thinking it was gonna be just an insert in a clear sleeve from that first image we got. Full sleeve art front and back looks dope in the end though. great work as usual JJ

New track is banging. These EP tracks from the MCA album are better than most of the leaked tracks.
Still hanging out for a proper release of Creepin, noticed a little bit of the instrumental at the end of this.
I am starting to get sick of the EPs though but based on the rappcats site update they are still sorting the legal stuff before they can drop the whole album.
Now to make myself wait a week to order this EP so I can get Rock Konducta Vol. 2 at same time.
