The earlier installment (A Journey Through J Dilla's Rock Crates) was two years ago. Wanted to share the jazz edition on STMB for obvious reasons. I lurk here but I can't say I post much - mods delete this if it's out of line with the Talk forum.

Here's another one for the Dilla heads - I've always loved the Jay Dee/Ummah era of his catalog and that was the main inspiration for this mix. A good portion of this set references his beat tapes and remixes from 1996-2002, in addition to the classic Slum Village/ATCQ/The Pharcyde tracks that put him on the map. All songs were ripped from 100% original vinyl, and the mix was recorded live with two turntables, an SP-303, Serato Scratch Live, and a mixer with a busted crossfader. Big shout out to Case for the artwork, Tucker & Bloom, everybody I've spun with at The Boom Bap, and all the DJs/fans keeping J Dilla's legacy alive.

Peace!

Thanks guys, here's the original Music City Living podcasts for A Journey Through J Dilla's Rock Crates (Parts I and II)

http://musiccityliving.podomatic.com

Scroll down past the first post and you'll see them. Those two mixes were all-vinyl affairs - it was perfect for the rock samples but I'm glad to be ripping my LPs into Serato now. I can re-create beats during the mix, double up on anything I own, and generally make the pacing more enjoyable for whoever's listening.

Big shout out to everybody else who's into shit like "1999 Dilla beat tape samples," haha.

My man Case Bloom did the artwork - he's the co-owner of our monthly party The Boom Bap, co-owner of the Tucker & Bloom bag company (check out their stuff), a hell of a DJ & a dope designer.
