only motivation for entering these battles is too sharpen your swords on production not because so and so is entering the beat battle. everyone complaining about beats sounding the same. make rules that will take ppl out there comfort zone. challenges should be different genres like house for example sense everything sounds redundant. i wonder if the big shots around here are versatile enough to attempt such a challenge. well that's just my 2 cents , but this is fake DB account anyways so it doesn't matter. :)

straight from the muthafuckin' llama's mouth, everyone. can we please get back to the beats now and do a house battle or something already?

i see that the only problem here is freedom, that brings one thousand guys here with their beats inflating the stbb. I think that no one should pass 3 days listening to 150 beats from the beginning to the end and make constructive blabla on ALL of them cuz you've already passed the other 4 days making the beat and with this attitude battling becomes more a work than a challenge. Plus it's really hard to no get bored, not because beats are shit but because after 80 beat with 70 left you must be under some really hard drugs to still be in the right mood for listening.

Here's my purpose, just limit the entries to 70 (or less). For instance, there should be some moderators of that soundcloud group.. when a STBB reach 70 entries they could erase any other beat who comes next. In this way we have a reasonable maximum of beats every week to listen and comment without ruining the "magic" and the production speed becomes a relevant variable like quality (as it should be imo).

Another thing, battle rules are important cause they set a common ground where we can challenge with the same weapons. If they're too free everything becomes just a huge showcase of random beats. I think that rules should be more creative, like Ras Dude is doing right now. Let us feel uncomfortable and limited, is the only way to bring out the real challenge and the strenght of everyone's style.

This is all well and good but behind the scenes the one guy that has started all of this, has had his account blocked, no access, no reason. Others can get away with complete disrespect, and have to be monitored like a naughty child, but the moment someone has brought all the things that he feels are wrong and where these battles are going, he gets banned. Are we not entitled to have our own opinions express them and debate how we can get something to improve and be better. Speekless, can not speak anymore, he has been made silent. He has messaged me on Soundcloud, as he no longer can access anything here. I think the man has a right to know why he has been blocked, being contacted first would of been a nicer thing to do. It's like getting home, looking forward to listening to some tunes, but you cant, as someone has changed the locks. I'm not impressed at all, I got better things to do than sparking my pipe up and trying to play the part of Sherlock, but this is getting well out of hand.

we shall see

he wasn't banned, i had the 404 thing happen to me this morning too...i thought the site was down or something.

...you know, that's not a bad idea at all. what do you other mods think? i got my mod status still B) and i say i'm up for this. should we get a vote or something going and see what the community thinks about this?

oh, another weird thing is when i try to edit my post it changes to "[POST>DOES<NOT?EXIST]" with some weird writing and symbols...anybody else experiencing that? i had to re-type my entire post above after deleting the other one, which then sent me to September 28th as if the last 15 posts never happened lol...there's some fishy stuff going on in the boards today.

I agree with Speekless on all of this, I've only done one beat battle because other times I either haven't had the time to make a good beat, didn't feel like it or have tried and it wasn't up to scratch. I know people say they rushed their beats and they just want feedback but why not just wait until next week and put enough time and effort in to create something original so you can be judged properly at the best of your abilities? I'm not saying everything you produce has to be the best thing ever but if it's not finished or you're not happy with it don't put it out there

All is well, I'm back... :D
Couldn't access any of this this morning, what confused me is that as soon as I switched my neighbours WiFi it did work immediately, so I thought my IP was banned or smthg. Ok, let's move on to the beats!

Haha.. the conspiracy thread leaking into this one? ... ST was out for a bit today all over the world.. no reason to get paranoid ;)

The 70 entry limit is the strangest idea I'v e heard... so the fastest flippers get to enter?

Does every entry get posted on the STMB page btw?... coz that's an existing rule that can be enforced..
I never crossreferenced the STMB posts with the ones on Soundcloud STBB page ... feel there are more there ..?

the best and most logical way to make a valuable change it's like me and some people already said.
raise the difficulty level.
having more than 1 sample will keep bringing more newbies to join. why 3 samples?! so if you can't flip this one, u have 2 more to chose from?!
it won't make people learn nothing from the battles cause you aren't really pushing yourself forward. having the will to pick from 3 different samples will allways leave you in a confort zone.

and challenging samples. not the conventional ish. and i bet we would hardly reach the 70 entires if so

don't need to add more rules. just shape the ones we already have.

Yeah as far as the rules most def, good suggestions. And then the no-vote thing :D

Edit: The 70-beat limit, nahh man. That would mean only faster made beats get in = bad thing

I posted in here before it was moved and it was deleted. Weird shit going on today.

Anyways -- I don't know about a 70 limit, that will cut a lot of folks out.

I was gonna suggest tightening up the samples. Whereas someone posting 3, 4, 5, 10 minutes of audio and we still get similar beats. Mostly because people will always go for the choice parts. Why not just post a 10-20 sec sample of the choice material, maybe some drum samples and other elements, like a sample pack, that way everyone is working with the same bare bones elements. Of course there are gonna be similar tracks (but that happens with 10 minutes of audio anyways). I think that would really show the skill of what people could do with the basics and help determine what the "best" was.

Ah, the accuser has become the culprit! ;)
It says along with the other rules every week: upload to STMB page...
I always gathered that was Stone Throw Message Board.
Haha... funny twist...

HuMan... 10 to 20 sec. samples? that would make for the most similar sounding beats imo

Haha, yeah. But like I said, 10 minutes of audio to sample and there's still a ton that are similar. There's still a myriad of ways you could cut 10-20 secs of audio plus processing. People just have to get creative with it. Just a suggestion.

I think the "rant" part of the rant is over and now we are making progress with ideas. ;)

It would be interesting to see a battle with.
-A small sample pack
-No outside anything
-Short short time limit

30 secs would be cool but probably way too short. 30 secs at 120 bpm is 16 bars. At 90 bpm it's 12 bars and 2 beats. Maybe just doing something that has a 16 bar limit. At 80 bpm, 16 bars is 45 secs. Haha! Would be interesting.

I'm just wondering how this is ever gonna get in the deciding phase...

So the winner has to make a samplepack HM? ... seems like too much effort...
Where's the Fun in 45 second beats?

1 sample. and more challenging rules... those two are the only realistically feasable ideas...
... what was the objective again!?? ;)

i've seen the SPMB's do some interesting battles...they call 'em "Sample Challenges", where you have to flip crazy shit...like for example, you get like a 10 second clip of Hank Hill talking from KOTH and you have to turn that into a beat without outside anything (including bass/drums/cuts/etc.)...now while that particular battle was a little too minimalistic for my tastes, i think that's an interesting idea to work with...we haven't had a "no outside drums" rule since....ever? idk, there probably was one down the line somewhere. i just wasn't around for it, i've only been around here since #300.
