to clarify, I in no way think that Wu Tang is actually the most overrated group, and this thread is a troll-attempt turned Wu-thread.

I don't know that I would compare the Wu to the Beatles really, but yes there is no arguing with their 90's output and they will always get respect as hip-hop legends for it. But it in no way excuses them from criticism for releasing sub-par music for decades (pretty much every single member is guilty of this). It's this track record and their incredibly childish inability to work together anymore that I base my opinion that this album is not going to be the "second 36 chambers" that such an insane release style almost demands it should be.

Yeah I'm not comparing the Beatles to Wu in sense of music and impact and creativity, simply trying to convey that staying power is great if you have it but not necessary to be a great group/artist.

Yah, the Wu came out with 6-7 classic albums right out the hop. If you look at it, they could be compared to the a beatles quite easily in many aspects. Mainly, fashion.

I like the Wudos mixtape and the wugazi mixtape. Genius stuff. And the Budos band is ridiculous by the way.

They in their money grubbin, lets just gets some cash-o-lah stage.
So, yah, like Sunny says. Not good.

I will be interested to hear the albums. I bet they will have a few heaters but overall, I am guessing, not so good. I mean even hearing them MC now a days, they sound like old menu the gusto of fire they had is now more like guts of tires.

so it's safe to assume that Paul's been dead for like 15 years at this point, and now they're subtly hinting at it with each new album cover that isn't being fiddled with by Yoko? in fact, now that you mention it.....

they should have just sold tickets to a raffle for a buck a pop, and only one ticket gets the album. They probably would have sold millions of tickets, made the same amount of money. Although then there's no reason to keep the album from leaking. but still.

Puzzlling how this kept going backwards and now ended up being totally opposite of the mindset Cilvaringz told having for this album in the beginning. First compiling verses from the clan and all the affiliates, directing them and pushing for an authentic Wu-Tang sound, assuring he's making it as a Wu-fan to the fans, hyping the project by dropping soundcloud and youtube snippets, asking the fans which version of tracks they preferred...

Then talking about the state of music, piracy, art - plan of touring museums with the album and letting people hear it that way. A letter and a 36 minute phone call to RZA, playing the completed album to him the first time...

Silence - followed by official announcement with all the 88 years and auction talk, and now this end result.

A regular ol' release would've been accessible to everyone (fans included to whom this was aimed to), and kept the main focus and interest on the actual music - but instead of the years of work, all reports were about the million dollar price, the handcrafted box, Cher and now the buyer.

Real shame because the snippets and beat videos by Cilvaringz sounded legit.

I think this was just a clever way for RZA, who is a total control freak, to bury a Wutang album he didn't produce.

Agreed.  From a consumer standpoint, the energy isn't right with Wu albums and hasn't been for many, many years.  They haven't exactly aged well neither, but if emotively they put forth something we wanted to be a part of in our own way, we'd listen, if not buy.  Instead, there brand has been reduced to a charade and incessant invoking of what they did 15-20 years ago.  It's sad.
