oh man, you should have said something earlier!
http://www.accesship...e/?itemid=10131

I bought my copy there a few weeks ago. I thought it would be sold out ASAP, but they had it in stock for quite a while. You could have gotten a copy. I now own the album on CD and vinyl.

Ouch, I would have def grabbed one if I had seen it. Seems when it does go for sale it's like almost $100
I wish he'd reprint some of his stuff

I'd probably say OG presses from the Scientist/Prince Jammy dub era.

so how do you guys figure out these rare LP's even exist in the first place?
i go digging a lot at shops around my house, but usually i'm picking stuff blindly and i make a gamble whether it will sound good or not based on like cover or year alone...rareness never even comes into mind for me.

i know some of these were (obviously) used in samples by other artists- but then i look at all the crazy, obscure shit you guys come up with and just wonder how you even knew about some out-of-print record from the '70s that i've never heard of...just wondering how you guys do your research.

you kind of answered your own question? a portion of it definitely is a gamble and instinct but then theres a good portion of information on a record that will sway me in one direction or another. like you said the year plays an important role along with instrumentation, label, players, country, cover art. yeah, sometimes i will have a better grasp on certain albums due to familiarity of players, producer, label etc but in the end its just digging out in the field and taking chances and learning from that. that's the research..

There's tons of ways to find out about rare obscure records that are out there. Checking out comps and reissues on websites like Finders Keepers, Dusty Groove, Turntable Lab, Boomkat, etc. Listening to mixes by DJs with deep crates is another way and then going through the tracklists. Even just searching around youtube will hip you to some rarez.

These days with smart phone technology, there's no reason to take a gamble in the field.

Edit: but remember, rare doesn't always equal good. There are plenty of rare records out there that are pure shit.

1) start with a beat I heard ______ sample
2) Youtube it
3) listen to suggested/similar songs
4) search for it on ebay, discogs, collectorsfrenzy, etc.

Google, liner notes, and mix cd's can be your best friend

That album is one of the best i've ever heard from beginning to end - - I believe Rob Swift, who produced the title track is the resident DJ on an ESPNU show called UNITE...99.9% of the kids who watch that show have no idea who Swift is or how much he's done in Hip-Hop

I actually finally got a copy of Scars and Memories recently. I've seen some sellers with signed ones, offered a guy $40 shipped for a copy that had a little bit of a smudged sig. Def worth the $20-30 off for me.

It's an excellent record!

I've been looking for Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (original soundtrack) on vinyl for some time now and have come up with nothing; I really want this record! I've tried Amazon, Ebay, and Discogs...any other sites you guys could recommend?
