I was listening to his album obsessively the last couple of months thinking his whole style is very Doomish. Very dense rhyming. Lots of assonance and stuff. Then I saw this today seems the connection is closer than I though.

Most of the OddFuture stuff is fantastic. I love Tyler The Creator too.

Assuming he is freed, 2011 is Earl Sweatshirt's year. Dude is 17 and can kill the majority of rappers in the "game." Along with DOOM, you can tell there is a heavy Eminem influence as well. He even says in AssMilk that he's the reincarnation of 98 Eminem. All around dopeness.

I heard EARL and Bastard last night, I just can't believe that this type of abstract Hip-Hop is being created by guys born in the 90s. It's really amazing, I'm digging Earl and Tyler the Creator.

EARL & Tyler are featured on everyone elses mixtapes too, so there worth the download

Stick Up (feat Earl) on Mike Gs album ALI is dope as fuck too.

These guys just have a whole aesthetic and way of acting that's bad ass as well. Fact you don't really know where Earl is gone. They're always cryptic in interviews so they don't destroy the mystique.

For me Yelawolf is the new incarnation of Eminems style. He makes it sound so effortless like Em did back in the day. Can't stand any of his newer stuff way he lays down his vocals on top of each other 20 times makes him sound so mechanical.

Good but extremely nerdy analysis of Earls style here:

That's an interesting blog. Doom gets quite a few mentions.

Anticipation of a new album coming as soon as he gets back.

An EarWolf album would be the shit, an entire album of Tyler and Earl rapping together like on AssMilk and Pigeons.

Madness.

yeah i knew it was a risky move. I wouldn't say I'm a rabid fan myself, as the only guys I semi-follow are Tyler and Earl. I was thoroughly bored with Tyler's new album, and as such he may be slipping off my radar at this point, but I always liked Earl's shit for the most part and was definitely curious about this album. I wouldn't describe it as changing the game or anything but there are a lot of good tracks on there. Sunday, Molasses, Knight, all the singles he's put out already... Good shit, great lyricism. I like his choice in beats as well for the most part. I'm thinking this might be the most successful odd future release as a whole.

But for some reason I can't fathom it opens up with some corny dude named SK La'Flare delivering easily the worst verses on the album. So watch out for that.

I was excited to hear what the album was gonna be like after hearing Hive, but overall the album is pretty average. He's got some jams up there like Hive, Whoa, Sunday (especially Frank Ocean's part), and Molasses, but over all I'm not to blown away. The only guy I'm really listening to on odd future at this point is Frank Ocean.

I like this a lot. SK La'Flare opening the album kind of bothered me at first but I got used to it. "Doris" & Domo's "No Idols" are easily my favorite Odd Future releases.

Earl goes into the extremely experimental side by the second half of the album. He makes some good beats, so far I think he's started out better at producing beats that a lot of people. I don't know who he's been getting tips from but his beats are high above average for someone who just started making beats. (Maybe he's been making beats for longer, but wanted to develop his skill first before making them public).

Earl's gotten a lot of comparisons to a young Nas. I hope, for Earl's sake, he doesn't resemble the old Nas in his beat-selection ineptitude. I played a couple of tracks off the album when it dropped, and didn't find it inspiring enough to listen to in its entirety but I'll give it another shot. Anyways, the fact that someone so young could write as well as he can is unbelievable

i would kill for a full length FlyLo/Earl collab.
as long as Earl steers clear from those "typical" hip-hop subjects and sticks to those 80-100 bpm, sample-laden beats, i think he'll do just fine...

although i have to admit, "Guild (Feat. Mac Miller)" was probably the worst track i've heard in a couple years. that shit was doomed from the start, experimental or not.
