I play guitar

I'm classicaly trained, too! I'll be making beats one minute, and the next I'll be picking "Greensleeves."

I want to learn how to play the drums. I think any beat maker has what it takes to do it - but it's so hard.

i'd love to be able to play the piano / keyboard. the only instrument i can play competently is the guitar--- but that means i shall never be bored again in my life...

when you're a kid, playing guitar is the ultimate way to get the honeys... no matter how bad you play...

anyway, i used to play drums but stopped because of problems with the neighboors.

I mostly play guitar, bass guitar, drums, piano, production equiptment, and banjo but I have some basic knowledge of and have the others.
Messing around with new instruments inspires my production using my padkontrol

my main instrument is guitar, so can get by on bass too.

Played trumpet since 8, but aint really given it any time in the past decade, pretty anti-social instrument practice wise.

I can get by on drums, and play keyboards badly.

Currently learning flute.

Boy im glad i aint my neighbours.

when i was a kid i played the guitar. i quit the moment i started to get into hip-hop and electronic music though. i don't regrit it. nowadays i bang on my keyboards. i never know what i'm doing but it comes out alright. i really want to learn to play the drums. with my name i should know that. otherwise, i doubt i'll ever learn how to play another instrument. but i'm gonna get as many instruments as possible and just freestyle with them. as long as you got a good ear, that's no problem. pianolessons would be a plus though cus you learn alot about the mathematics and also how to play chords together and so on and so on.

i'm a music business major playin drums, keys, guitar. my serious instrument is drums but i've been playin keys since 2nd grade. theory kinda messes with your head when you're doin beats though because you're worried about key signatures, time signatures and all that whereas if you're untrained it's just like "yeah, that sounds alright." it just makes things more complicated. but its helpful too, like when you have an idea but no sample to iterate it, just hop on a keyboard and pound it out.

does anybody else use MIDI to do beats?

I use MIDI. It's really a great tool. Whoever invented it should get an award.

I was a music major until I dropped out.

Oh yeah ... I play guitar and drums. I get by on the bass and keys and I used to play the alto sax (slowly getting back into playing it).

I play the trumpet. Haven't played in awhile though. I started with the clarinet, but I hated it. The trumpet is way cooler.

I wanna play the drums really bad and learning the piano wouldn't be too bad either.

i play bass, guitar and keys... i play synth inna band and in school i play bass(where im a music major too).
To me, 95% of theory is useless in terms of beatmaking... theory about bass, chords, scales andother simple stuff is aight but i seldomly use it. Fuck learning theory to make beats, its a waste of time! use your time on something else and more important. go diggin', or just bang out some beats instead....

peace

I feel ya, I use some special chord voicings though that I wouldn't know if I didn't study jazz harmony.
