I was checking out the record shelves at Ikea the other day and they had some nice ones ranging between 100 - 169 dollars. I figured before I go ahead and buy I might as well run it by the old ST message board. Any recommendations? Or am I being a total tool buying record shelves at Ikea?

you cant go wrong with ikea.. the shits the bomb.

when you put em together though, you may want a friend to help, it can be rather frustrating.

i know some guys create them by themselves, it's not very complicated, but it's basically the same result.

TurntableLab has the BEST ones around... trust me!

On top of that, only like 90 greenbacks.

http://www.turntable...t/0/0/9703.html

If you can wait till they restock, that is.

you'd have to be mental to buy these.... the ikea ones are around the same price and are an actual shelving unit not just a little wooden box that you could make yourself. do you work for TTL?

i had wanted to get those ikea shelves, but i didnt have a truck to pick them up. and it was gonna cost me just as much as the shelves the get them shipped to my house. so for an even cheaper alternative, i got these wooden shelves from menards for like $20 each. you have to stain them yourself. my wife had started to stain one of them a dark cherry wood color but never finished. so they look ugly, but they work.

Yeah, I would PASS on these with a quickness. I'm normally a huge fan of TurntbleLab and the products they offer, however, this is bullshit. $90+ Dollars for one maybe two wooden boxes, when for a few extra bucks you could cop a whole record/bookcase from Ikea?! Nah, srew that. Go with the Ikea joint....they hold more records, are probably more stable, and ( considering space to the dollar) are a shit load cheaper.

I got the one Patch has, I think the smaller version is $169 canadian. Looks nice and fits a shitload of shit. Beats the fuckin turntable lab "boxes".

those really hold?
my past ikea experiences are full of broken ass stuff.
no matter how well you put it together.
if they hold, i wouldn't mind getting them

i bought 4 boxes like the ttl ones but solid wood (not ply) for $20 each at ikea. the screws were hard as hell to get in but they look good and i like the stackability factor for mobility purposes. only thing i like better about the big shelf units is they're deeper so you can keep a record in front of the stack for displayage

Right now my records are on a two-level, 8' wide shelf I built myself with two by fours and thick, finished plywood. But the thing is I'm moving into an apartment soon where space is going to be limited, so I figure a tall, vertical shelf would be ideal. I'd feel a helluva lot safer buying a shelf of this height over building one myself.

nah the walls were i live are just board not very solid so if i put em on there with records on it would rip the wall down,i still have a scar on my hand from putting that expedit together and that was 2 years ago!

i'd use 3/8 togggle bolts with a 4" screw for every four feet. get the plaster ready when your ready to move the shelves to a different location.
