DR. NO'S OXPERIMENT
Oh No concocts 30 brand new beats, continuing Stones Throw’s
acclaimed series of instrumental hip-hop albums (following J Dilla Donuts
and Madlib’s Beat Konducta). For this latest Oxperiment, Oxnard,
CA-based Dr. No researches raw and rare psych from Turkey, Lebanon, Greece
and Italy to formulate his antidote to wack samples and played-out loops.
EXODUS INTO UNHEARD RHYTHMS
Cali MC/producer Oh No crafts an entire album of beats sampled from the
catalog of Galt MacDermot – composer of the late-’60s
smash musical HAIR. With a formidable cast of guest MCs, it all adds up
to a hip-hop album that transcends generations. Features A.G., Posdnous
from De La Soul, Murs, Vast Aire and more.
THE DISRUPT
Oh No is on his way to hip hop notoriety with his long-awaited debut album,
The Disrupt, on Stones Throw Records. Like his older brother, Madlib,
Oh No doubles as an MC and Producer, rounding out a family of west-coast
underground renaissance men. Production by Oh No, Madlib, J Dilla and
Kan Kick. Appearances by Aloe Blacc, Wildchild, Dudley Perkins and more.
BIO
There’s clearly something going on with the Jackson family. Father
Otis, Sr. is an acclaimed 70s soul-slinger; mother Senesca wrote most
of his classic tunes. Oh No (Michael) is the younger brother of indie
hip hop icon Madlib (Otis Jr., a.k.a. Madvillain, Quasimoto, Jaylib) and,
just like his sibling, he triples as an MC-Producer-DJ. Oh, and he’s
prolific as all hell.
He debuted as an artist in his own right with a string of singles on
Stones Throw and Groove Attack. Oh No's name has grown in recent years,
with production work for numerous artists including Medaphoar, LMNO, Aloe
Blacc, Wildchild (half of Secondary Protocol) and Murs (The End Of The
Beginning).
The Disrupt follows Madvillain’s Madvillainy as Stones Throw’s
second featured hip-hop release of the year - but represents a fresh start
in sound and approach.
Madlib and J Dilla appear on production, with guest vocalists including
Aloe Blacc, Wildchild, Declaime (a.k.a. Dudley Perkins) and Stacy Epps,
but it's Oh No that shines, with his own tracks including “Seventeen”,
“Break” and the album's first single, “The Ride”
– an ode to Oh No’s obsession with video games – both
present, and vintage. Heads in the no will flip on the arcade-classic
Oh No chopped up for his bounciest beat.
Stones Throw brings the quality again (and again and again). Continue
with Oh No’s The Disrupt.
